Reprinted book cover of “Han Mac Tu’s journey to poetry and his return” by Vu Hai.

First of all, explaining “why I republished?”, the author said: On the occasion of launching the short story collection “Roses still bloom around me” (Writers Association Publishing House, 2023, Da City Police Topic Nang had an introduction), which she completed while hospitalized in the United States due to a serious illness. By chance, a friend mentioned the book “Han Mac Tu’s luggage for poetry and his return to himself” which made her extremely moved, remembering the ups and downs of his youth with his pen in his hometown. And immediately determined to republish the work, as the last time “do this for the poet: Rekindle a candle to find each other. To see family and relatives again when possible…”.

The booklet is divided into main parts: Feeling the suffering with Han Mac Tu’s return to himself, Journey for poetry, Han Mac Tu’s poetry – New wings…, accordingly, the author has diligently devoted spent a lot of time collecting documents, meeting witnesses related to Han Mac Tu’s life and career, to portray a portrait of the great turning point changes in the poet’s life.

It should be mentioned that before his death, Han Mac Tu wished to hand over all of his posthumous poems and letters to poet Quach Tan to preserve, but almost all were lost in the 1945 war. That led to many complicated controversies surrounding the issue of Han Mac Tu, typically the lawsuit between Tran Thanh Mai and Quach Tan. Furthermore, is the pen name Han Mac Tu or Han Mac Tu? What was the birth time of the wonderful love poem “This Vy Da Village”? Step by step, author Vu Hai has led readers to get closer and understand more about the world of Korean poetry: unique, crazy, and the strangest among new contemporary poets, which originally came from a mental illness. y – leprosy and unrequited love to the point of despair. With some sensitivity and premonition, the author pursued and traced Han Mac Tu’s dream lovers whose names in real life were: Kim Cuc, Mong Cam, Mai Dinh, Thuong Thuong…

Even the late layperson Hoang Thi Kim Cuc (one of Han Mac Tu’s muses) expressed: “Vu Hai is a special girl, with a special soul. I see she is in love with Han Mac Although she was not yet born when Han Mac Tu passed away. Mr. Dau Ngoc Tuan – former lecturer in the Department of Literature, College of Sciences – Hue University, said that “Han Mac Tu’s journey to poetry and his return” is a highly reliable treatise. Vu Hai recreates the portrait of the poet with the “blood” of poetry and with the ability to perceive and decode Han Mac Tu’s rich literary soul. It has become a scientific choice. Mr. Tuan especially emphasized: “First of all, Here is Vy Da village, which is now recorded as Here, Vy Da village. Along with the poem’s autograph, there is also a unique letter from Han Mac Tu to Ms. Hoang Thi Kim Cuc in November 1939. And the poem’s birth name is the pen name Han Mac Tu, not Han Mac Tu (as many documents still state). The bases are practical and the explanations are thorough Vu Hai’s theory has left readers without the slightest hesitation.

As for writer and poet Nguyen Dinh Nien (author of “Experience of human condition in Han Mac Tu’s poetry” – essay for Master of Arts in 1973) affirmed: “…More than anyone else, more than me, Vu Hai has full authority to write well, correctly and successfully about Han Mac Tu. Han Mac Tu has passed away, Vu Hai has not yet been “born”… But Vu Hai is a living document about Han Mac Tu in his blood meat, in thinking, in life – for twenty years, throughout a young woman’s life – Vu Hai has been inspired by Han Mac Tu. What more can we ask for?…”.
