On April 24, in Hanoi, Kim Dong Publishing House organized an exchange program and book launch “The Writer’s Path” – Diary of writer Nguyen Huy Tuong from 1938 to before the August Revolution of 1945.

The book was compiled by researcher Nguyen Huy Thang, son of writer Nguyen Huy Tuong, and divided into 3 parts.

The book’s layout shows the career paths of Nguyen Huy Tuong with “Dream of Literature” in part 1 when the young man is always haunted by the “literary ghost,” until part 2 when he has his first work. hand “Long Tri Festival Night” was printed into a book and part 3 when he released a major work in his career: “Vu Nhu To.”

Through that, readers can also learn about his journey of participating in social activities and patriotic activities before the revolution with the movement of Spreading the National Language to Scouting and then Culture to Save the Nation.

Writer Nguyen Huy Tuong, in his first step towards literature, considered writing a diary as a way to practice writing. Not only that, he thought, “I am writing a diary and reflecting on myself, and finding a concept about human life” (Diary dated November 24, 1938).


Literary and artistic creativity on the topic of war and revolution in recent times has had many innovations and has been recognized by experts.

According to Linguistics Doctor Do Anh Vu, the diary is attractive because of its concise but vivid writing style, authentic and emotional details. Nguyen Huy Tuong’s private diary pages are valuable documents about social life, civil servant life and partly outline the picture of Vietnamese literature before the August Revolution.

Researcher Nguyen Huy Thang commented: “Nguyen Huy Tuong’s diary, while recording his life with his writing process and social activities, at the same time, also reflects the events and movements of which he was a member. insiders.”

Dr. Do Thanh Nga said that the diary shows writer Nguyen Huy Tuong’s concern with his profession and his life. Besides literary stories, Nguyen Huy Tuong confided about the meaning of life and being human. Because he considered writing a diary as a way to practice writing when embarking on a literary career, the words in the diary were also very elaborate. The book also reveals the relationships and portraits of many famous writers and artists of that time.

Nguyen Huy Tuong (1912-1960) came to writing quite late. In his youth, he participated in patriotic movements of young people and students in Hai Phong; National language dissemination and scouting activities. In 1943 he joined the secret National Salvation Culture group. In August 1945, Nguyen Huy Tuong was sent to attend the National Congress in Tan Trao. The August Revolution was successful, he became a key leader of the Cultural Association for National Salvation and was a Member of the First National Assembly in 1946.

Nguyen Huy Tuong led the first group of writers to Dien Bien Phu (Dien Bien Group) after the war; Participate in all the daily labor of the soldiers building the historic Northwest land.

He is a founding member of the Vietnam Writers Association. He has won many awards, including the Ho Chi Minh Prize for Literature and Arts, phase I, in 1996. He is one of the founders and first Director of Kim Dong Publishing House.

Writer Nguyen Huy Tuong is the author of historical novels and great plays such as: “Vu Nhu To,” “Long Tri Festival Night,” “Bac Son,” “Living Forever with the Capital.” Young readers of many generations love him through his unique children’s works: “The flag embroidered with six golden letters,” “Looking for mother,” “Princess An Tu,” “The brave girl”
