Ocean Vuong’s latest book is called The Emperor of Gladness (roughly translated: King of pleasure), expected to be published in June 2025. According to the publisher, the book revolves around a stubborn young man living in New England who, through a twist of fate, became the caregiver for an 82-year-old widow suffering from dementia.
Writer – poet Ocean Vuong was born in 1988 in Ho Chi Minh City, and came to America with his family when he was 2 years old.

Ocean Vuong is a writer, lecturer and photographer. He is the author of two poetry collections The night sky is filled with piercing wounds and Time Is a Mother). Both made it onto bestseller lists, and created a lot of buzz around the world.
In 2019, he received the MacArthur “Genius” award and fellowship. He currently divides his time between Massachusetts and New York, where he teaches modern poetry and poetics at New York University.
