The autobiography “Living until dawn” by writer and journalist Tran Mai Hanh was jointly produced by the Voice of Vietnam (VOV), National Political Publishing House Truth and his family.

The book is nearly 700 pages thick, including 7 parts, depicting typical slices of his life with many ups and downs. Flipping through each page of the book, readers will witness memories of Tran Mai Hanh’s childhood. What follows is the journey of a student, then a war reporter going through the most difficult and glorious moments of the nation.

Tran Mai Hanh also portrayed the country’s context in the first years after peace was restored; went through a period of struggling with deprivations and difficulties during the subsidy period; Then came the process of innovation, opening up and global integration.

Not only real life stories, readers also find in the book other slices such as love stories, the very pure but fragile emotions of soldiers on the front.

While journalist Tran Mai Hanh wrote the book, the person who was always by his side to accompany and encourage him was Tran Mai Anh, his daughter. Speaking at the book launch ceremony, Ms. Tran Mai Anh said: “My father’s life is full of ups and downs, some happy and some not so happy. But he is always passionate about working and contributing, wholeheartedly and Enthusiastically with friends and relatives who believed and loved him.”

The book was conceived and written by journalist Tran Mai Hanh a long time ago, but it was not completed until early this year. Many family events occurred that made it seem impossible for him to finish the book.

It was only when she heard her beloved daughter’s last words uttered on her hospital bed before her death that her father’s wish for his book to be completed made Tran Mai Hanh awake and determined to complete the last lines.

The stories portrayed by Tran Mai Hanh in the book “Living Until Dawn” are not only the author’s own stories but are valuable historical documents of an entire era. Closing the pages of the book, what remains in the reader’s mind is the spirit of optimism, always believing in a bright future like the name of the book “Living Until Dawn”.
