ICO data shows that by the end of the 2022 – 2023 crop year, green coffee exports reached 110.8 million bags, down 5.5% compared to the 2021 – 2022 crop year and accounting for more than 90% of total coffee exports. Global.

According to ICO, the global macroeconomic environment does not boost consumer demand in the 2022 – 2023 coffee season, and rising inflation and interest rates in many major economies have increased the cost of living and reduces the disposable income of a large segment of the world’s consumers.

These factors appear to have caused a decline in coffee consumption and a decline in global green coffee exports.

However, ICO believes that the decline in global green coffee exports in the 2022 – 2023 crop year may have more to do with logistics and supply chains than with the health of the general economy and actual coffee consumption. .

Also according to ICO data, global green coffee exports averaged 118.1 million bags in the crop years from 2018 – 2019 to 2021 – 2022, an increase of 8.5 million bags compared to the average of 109.6 million. bags in the 2014 – 2015 to 2017 – 2018 crop years. This shows that stocks have increased in non-producing countries, which have decreased sharply in the past 12 months.

In September, exports of all coffee groups decreased compared to the same period last year, including Brazilian arabica down 13.4%, Colombian arabica down 6.7%, other arabica down 13.1%, robusta down 13.6%. %.

Overall for the 2022 – 2023 crop year, Brazilian Arabica coffee exports decreased by 8.5% compared to the previous crop year to 34.2 million bags. Colombian Arabica coffee exports also witnessed a decrease of 11.2% to only 10.8 million bags; Other Arabica groups decreased by 12.1% to 22.1 million bags.

Thus, the total global export of green Arabica coffee beans in the 2022 – 2023 crop year reaches more than 67 million bags, down 10.1% compared to 74.6 million bags in the 2021 – 2022 crop year.
