Cumulatively in the first 3 months of 2024, the export of cassava and cassava products reached 944,930 tons, worth up to 430.44 million USD, although down 3.3% in volume but up 15.6% in value compared to the previous year. same period last year.

In March, the average export price was 451.3 USD/ton, up 1.7% compared to February 2024 and up 18.2% compared to March 2023. In the first 3 months of this year, the average export price of this product group reached 455.5 USD/ton, up 19.5% over the same period in 2023.

Notably, China still buys this product from our country with an overwhelming rate of 94.2% in volume and 92% in value in our country’s total export turnover of cassava and cassava products in the first quarter. recently.

Specifically, in March 2024, the amount of cassava exported to China reached 299,600 tons, earning 133.56 million USD. Compared to March last year, it increased 33.2% in volume and increased sharply by 59.6% in value.

Accumulated in the first 3 months of 2024, Vietnam exported 890,550 tons of cassava and cassava products to China, with a value of over 400 million USD, only a slight increase of 0.7% in volume but a strong increase in value of 20%. .7% over the same period last year.

Currently, cassava is Vietnam’s first billion-dollar vegetable. In 2023, exporting cassava and cassava products brings in 1.3 billion USD.

Recently, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development approved the Project “Sustainable development of the cassava industry until 2030, with a vision to 2050”.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the goal is to develop a stable, effective and sustainable cassava industry; Building close links between production, processing and consumption of products to create high economic value, contributing to creating jobs, eliminating hunger and reducing poverty, and improving the lives of people in rural areas; increase the value of export turnover and protect the environment.

Specifically, by 2030, the country’s fresh cassava output will reach about 11.5-12.5 million tons. The cassava growing area using varieties that meet quality standards reaches 40-50%. The cassava growing area applying sustainable farming processes reached 50%. Export turnover of cassava and cassava products reached 1.8-2 billion USD.

Vision to 2050, Vietnam’s cassava industry continues to develop sustainably, 70-80% of cassava growing areas apply sustainable farming processes, fresh cassava output is used for deep processing of some products ( starch, ethanol, MSG…) accounts for over 90%, the export turnover of cassava and cassava products reaches about 2.3-2.5 billion USD.
