Seven car parts need to be ‘checked’ before every long trip

--

During the holiday from April 30 to May 1 this year, most workers have 5 consecutive days off, causing the need to move and travel for many families to increase dramatically. The journey of driving home or traveling by car up to several hundred kilometers always requires the car to be in good technical condition and operate stably.

According to automotive engineers, whether you own a new car or an old “grass car”, before every trip, especially long journeys, the car owner should take some time to “look” at the vehicle. Some important items to limit the scene of “lying on the street”.

Below are 7 places on the car that car owners need to pay special attention to, observe and check before long trips:

1. Tires

Tires are an extremely important part and are also the leading cause of unsafety on the road, so before each trip, you need to pay attention to the tire condition and promptly handle any problems.

According to experienced drivers, it is possible to recognize tire condition or problems with the naked eye. If you discover that the car has tire problems such as low air, nails stuck in, etc., you must promptly add air with a mini pump or go to the nearest garage to thoroughly handle it before going out on the road.

A rule of thumb is that if you find a nail, don’t rush to pull it out because that will make the tire go flat faster. If your tires are too old and worn out, don’t waste money on replacing them with a new set of tires to feel more secure on your journey.

2. Braking system

Normally, car owners only take the car’s brakes to be checked when there is a problem with this part. Experts advise that, before long trips such as the upcoming April 30 – May 1 holiday, car owners should take their vehicle to have the brake system checked to ensure they do not encounter unfortunate risks when operating the vehicle. Cars, especially when traveling on steep mountain passes, use the brakes a lot.

At the garage, technicians will remove the wheel, then remove the brake to check the brake lining and check the oil. Finally, clean the brake pads if they are dirty due to dust, apply brake grease and then reassemble as before.

For disc brakes, after a period of use, under the influence of braking and the external environment such as soil, rocks, temperature,… can cause warping of the brake disc, causing the brake disc to become rough or uneven. thickness is not uniform. In those cases, smoothing the brake disc is considered the most effective solution to solve the brake problem.

3. Coolant

A car cannot operate stably and durably without coolant. When the car is operating, the heat generated from the car’s engine is very large. Without coolant, the metal parts inside the engine will expand, causing damage to the vehicle.

In particular, with old cars that have been used for less than 10 years, parts of the cooling system such as water tank, water pump, wires, etc. will be more or less degraded. If unfortunately this system malfunctions or leaks, running out of coolant can also cause the engine to overheat, lock up, etc., which is very dangerous when traveling long distances.

Therefore, the cooling system in general and the cooling water in particular need to be checked before a long trip. If the coolant is lost (below the MIN line printed on the auxiliary water tank), it should be replenished immediately with specialized water. In addition, it is necessary to carefully consider the cause of the water leak, whether it is serious or not, and if there is too much water, it needs to be dealt with completely to avoid being “on the street” during the holidays.

4. Spark plug, injector, intake manifold

Injector parts, intake manifold, spark plugs, high-pressure wires,… directly affect the performance and performance of the car engine. These parts working well will help optimize power, save fuel, and make the car move smoothly.

For vehicles that have been used for many years, the injectors, intake manifold, and spark plugs are often dirty, leading to blockage and blockage, so it is important to pay attention to these parts. If your car has not cleaned these parts for a long time, you should take it to the garage to wash and clean at a cost of about 300-500 thousand VND.

5. Machine oil

Once you open the hood, you can also “check” the engine compartment area to see if there is any oil leak or not? At the same time, turn the oil dipstick to check and ensure the amount of lubricant is always enough.

Normally, car manufacturers recommend changing engine oil every 5,000km. If the car is close to this threshold, it’s worth spending money on a new oil can for your driver to operate more smoothly and durably.

6. Air filter

The effect of a car engine air filter is to filter dust and dirt in the air before entering the combustion chamber. Therefore, after a long period of work, this part is often covered with a lot of dust and dirt. If not cleaned or replaced periodically, air will have difficulty entering the combustion chamber, causing poor engine performance, vehicle overheating, weak acceleration, fuel consumption, etc.

According to experts, this is also a part that needs to be cleaned periodically about 3,000-5,000km and replaced after about 20,000km of use. Cleaning the air filter is also quite simple, you can do it yourself before every long trip.

7. Glass cleaner, wipers

Glass washer fluid and wipers have little to do with the vehicle’s performance, however, if there is a lack of this fluid or the wiper blades are worn out, it can be very troublesome when traveling long distances in the rain, dust, etc. photo greatly affects the driver’s visibility.

To be “safe”, before each long trip, we should open the tank lid and add a fair amount of glass cleaner. Experts recommend that you should choose a specialized glass cleaner to achieve the best results, keeping the glass surface as well as the wiper blades durable. Do not use plain water or mineral water because it can easily cause scale buildup and damage the pipeline system.
