Recently, the Ho Chi Minh City Market Management Department directed market management teams to strengthen local supervision and closely monitor gold shops to promptly detect and handle violations. The inspection focuses on smuggling activities, trading in goods of unknown origin and counterfeit brands.

In addition, the Ho Chi Minh City Market Management Department also coordinated with the State Bank of Ho Chi Minh City branch to develop a specialized gold inspection plan. Subjects subject to inspection will be notified in advance of the inspection plan.

By April 25, the Market Management Department discovered and handled violations at 17 gold shops, temporarily confiscating 644 products and items without invoices and documents and with counterfeit brands.

Regarding the fact that many gold shops closed after inspection plans, Mr. Huy said that there is currently no basis to determine the exact reason for the temporary suspension of business for these gold shops. In addition, Decree 24 of the Government does not stipulate that businesses must notify the time and reason for temporary business suspension to state management agencies.

Mr. Huy said that subjective assessments can also affect a business’s reputation. However, the Ho Chi Minh City Market Management Department requires market management forces to closely monitor the area and gold business establishments.
