I’ve never seen Thailand increase prices during Songkran, but in Vietnam, air tickets, hotels, meals… just wait for the holidays to increase prices.

One thing I find very difficult to accept about traveling to Vietnam is that every holiday or New Year, air tickets, hotels, meals, services… are all racing to increase prices. People who work in tourism services think that they are wise and know how to seize the golden opportunity to do business and make a profit. But they don’t know that tourists these days are not stupid. Knowing that the price of travel services during the holiday season and Tet has increased sharply, people now choose to either stay home or go abroad for health.

According to many travel agencies, many northern tourist destinations such as Cat Ba, Ninh Binh, Dien Bien, Sa Pa… all announced reaching maximum hotel room capacity for the April 30 holiday. Due to high demand, most 3-4 star hotels apply holiday surcharges and increase prices by 20-30%. Meanwhile, low-star motels and hotels recorded a price increase of nearly double.

This fact shows a mistake in the way tourism is exploited in our country. Service workers should have known how to make the short work of the long term. Working in tourism, like running a business, must accept double or triple salary for workers during holidays and Tet to maintain operations, however, it is impossible to fully account for that increase in product prices and attract customers. The goods must bear all the costs.

>> Invite each other to go to Thailand because the tour is cheap

Due to the nature of my job, I have to travel a lot to Thailand, so I have the opportunity to experience their way of doing tourism. I have never seen Thai people announce an increase in service prices during Songkran or Loy Krathong, even though these are Thailand’s biggest holidays, the number of tourists increases dramatically, and “room shortages” often occur. through. That is the progressive thinking of business people, they know how to nurture customers, create reputation to have a stable, long-term customer base, all year round.

With my own knowledge, I dare to affirm that in Thailand and Japan alone, there is no such thing as a double or triple increase in service prices during holidays and Tet like in us. The Thai Government also encourages service providers to launch more promotions (a form of discount), advertising… to attract tourists.

Please don’t ask why Vietnamese people keep choosing holidays to travel and complaining about high prices. If you have a lot of free time to choose when to go and when not to go, that’s a different story. But most workers and salaried workers do not have many opportunities or days off to make such choices. They just look forward to holidays, Tet, and long official breaks to go on a trip.

Therefore, it is impossible to push all the cost burden on tourists, considering it as a price that must be exchanged just to travel on holidays.
