Thunderstorms cool down the West

--

On the afternoon of April 26, thunderstorms occurred in some localities such as Can Tho City, Ca Mau, Kien Giang, Hau Giang, and Tien Giang. This is considered a “golden” rain that helps cool the Southwest region after long days of enduring heat and saltwater intrusion.

In provinces such as Vinh Long and An Giang, rain also appeared but was not heavy.

Heavy rain appeared in Can Tho after many days of intense heat.

Responding to VTC News, Mr. Le Dinh Quyet, Head of the Forecasting Department of the Southern Regional Hydrometeorological Station, said that the rainfall in Giong Rieng (Kien Giang) is about 25 mm, the rainfall in Phu Tan (Ca Mau) is about 18.4 mm, rainfall at Tran Van Thoi (Ca Mau) is about 23.4 mm. Particularly, the rainfall in O Mon (Can Tho) is about 12.8 mm.

Also according to Mr. Quyet, the Western provinces will soon see more rain following the changing seasons, but the rainy season will not begin in this area until the second half of May. During the changing season, thunderstorms and lightning often appear during the rain, so people need to be careful.

On the afternoon of April 26, some provinces in the Southern region experienced thunderstorms.

The Southern Regional Hydrometeorological Station assessed that from the beginning of the year until now, throughout the Southern region in general and the Mekong Delta provinces in particular, there has been very little rain, rising temperatures, and hot weather appearing early and lasting longer. long period of time, strong evaporation, and widespread drought. At the same time, the water source from the upper Mekong River flowing to the Mekong River is lower than the average for many years in the same period.

This situation causes many provinces and cities to lack water for living and production. In some provinces, such as Ca Mau, rivers and canals are dry, accompanied by subsidence and landslides. The salinity intrusion situation is severe, deep into the interior of the field, the salinity line of 4g/l is about 45 – 55km deep.

From now until the end of May, the Southwest region will also experience increased saltwater intrusion on April 23 – 28 and May 6 – 12. However, these two waves of saltwater intrusion were not as high as the period from April 8 to April 14. It is forecast that by May 2024, salinity will decrease rapidly and by June, salinity intrusion will recede further towards the river mouth.
