After a seemingly never-ending series of strong increases, Robusta stopped to balance its business position on the exchange. Besides, increased inventory has limited the upward momentum, causing coffee to turn around.

Data shows that Robusta coffee inventory on ICE Futures Europe as of April 25 has increased to a 4.5-month high, reaching 37,600 tons. Along with that, Arabica coffee inventory on ICE Futures US also increased to its highest level in 11.5 months, reaching 661,492 bags.

Domestic coffee prices are still over the threshold of 131,000 VND/kg. Supply tensions are still happening when in the world at this stage only Vietnam is harvesting. Indonesia harvests around April-May, while Brazil harvests around July.

Meanwhile, Vietnam’s inventory output is very low, only 50% compared to previous years. The output of the 2023 – 2024 crop year is also estimated to decrease by 10% compared to the previous crop year.

Any cause that causes additional disadvantages to Vietnam’s crop output at this time will be very sensitive, quickly pushing prices up beyond the current high level.
