Singer Trinh Dinh Quang performed 25 shows/month at his peak, but now he still has 3 shows and is still happy

– Once an idol of the 8X and early 9X generations, why was he absent for so long that people forgot who Trinh Dinh Quang was?

Honestly, I haven’t ‘disappeared’, I’m still active but weak in communication. Partly it’s because I’m introverted, too withdrawn, and don’t work hard enough to make pictures or update social networks. I usually only appear when there are new products, which is not enough for an artist like that.

In addition, recently, I have been gradually changing my musical style. It also takes some time for audiences who love their previous music to get used to it.

I still go to shows regularly even though recently I’ve started to slow down. At my peak, I performed about 25 shows/month, now there are only 5 shows, some months 2-3 shows.

I write music, record and perform very hard, but I just don’t have the media to share it with the audience.

– During the months when there are only 2-3 shows, surely you can’t live on salary?

Besides performing, I also have income from YouTube and royalties from the Vietnam Music Copyright Protection Center… although not much.

Like you said, I also feel that the audience is gradually forgetting me. Any audience that still listens to those old hits must be of a certain age, and the number of young audiences is very small.

However, I still live by music alone, do not do business or do anything else.

There was a period when I struggled and couldn’t find direction. If you sing in the old style, it’s too old and can’t reach the current audience. Recently, unintentionally songs about social topics such as I owe you mom, Sending little love, Almost 30… suddenly received more attention. I believe I have found the right direction. Latest post Heart in the sky which I am very excited about and will mark myself along this path.

I found my inspiration again so I started composing more. Previously, I only completed 1 article a few months ago, now there are sometimes 3 articles/month.

– Where did that inspiration come from?

Perhaps from the new living space after each move. From the layout to the new atmosphere, it gives me many emotions every time I sit down to write music.

I live in a normal 3-story house, about 40 square meters in Go Vap district. Before that, I lived in District 10. I moved houses a lot, and every time I lived there for a while, I would sell or rent it out. Right now I have no plans to stay permanently, maybe in the future I will move again.

– You just confirmed that you have no source of income other than music, but if this isn’t real estate business, then what is it?

I really don’t know how to do business, my girlfriend took care of the move. Every time I move house, I’m lucky to make a little profit, but from the beginning I don’t intend to make a profit.

We feel happy and excited every time we change our living space. She likes to decorate the house and I focus on making music.

I’m not good at making money, but it’s never been to the point of struggling. There aren’t many shows, but they’re different, it’s like ‘it’s there, it’s there again’. And even though the number of shows has decreased, I’m still selective, I don’t sing everywhere.

My salary is ‘reasonable’, enough to live on. In the past, when I had a popular hit, I never asked for an increase in salary because I didn’t want to receive a number that was too high compared to what I brought to the audience. Therefore, later on, that salary level did not decrease, but increased steadily over time, even if slightly.

– Which colleagues do you still maintain relationships with?

At work, I don’t work with anyone permanently. Depending on the song, I will find a suitable partner. In real life, I often gather and chat with brothers Phan Manh Quynh, Ho Quang Hieu, Anh Duc, Mai Quoc Viet, friend Bui Cong Nam…

– In the near future, will Trinh Dinh Quang maintain this pace of activities or will he ‘disappear’ again?

Before, I didn’t think deeply, I just finished playing the cards and was lost. From now on, I won’t be like that anymore, I won’t let myself ‘hibernate’ for too long but will have a long-term plan to release music to serve the audience. I also have to pay attention to updating social networks. In the past, there were times when I spent a whole month worrying about making music and posting nothing.

– Such a beautiful girlfriend, why have I never seen you in any of your MVs?

I heard in the industry that if two people who love each other act in each other’s music videos, they will easily break up. Well, I’m scared, let’s invite another actor just to be sure.

– How is life with you and your girlfriend?

My girlfriend is my spiritual support. She is not the type of woman who is responsible but still tries very hard to cook for her lover. However, I don’t want my girlfriend to do those things. I look at how hot Saigon is like this, look at her struggling in the kitchen and feel sorry for her, so sorry!

Every morning, the two of us get up to drink coffee, chat about fun things, and if we have work together, we go home and do it together. My girlfriend works as a convenience supermarket manager on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays of the week.

On the remaining days, we did other things or rode motorbikes to breathe fresh air, looked at the streets or went to the cinema to watch movies. The two of them are like one.

Music interspersed and throughout the entire time I had. Whenever I have free time, I sit at my desk.

Next October, we will celebrate 10 years of love. If nothing changes, next year we will get married even though in my heart, she is already my life partner.

Currently, I feel very happy. If you can ‘participate’ in the economy a little more, it will be even more fun. The two of them live well, but when they get married they will have children. I definitely have to prepare financially so my children can have a good life.
