This is a common psychological disorder in crowded environments, especially schools. Currently, 18 children (including 2 boys and 16 girls) are being monitored at home, supporting psychological stability and supplementing with nutrition.

After examination and evaluation, the medical profession determined that the students with abnormal expressions were suffering from mass hysteria, treated mainly with psychotherapy and education methods.

In the past two days, the doctors of Cao Bang Provincial General Hospital have instructed teachers to handle the case, quickly taking the sick student out to a quiet, private room for monitoring.

Previously, at 9pm on November 24, the Department of Health of Cao Bang province received information that at Na Rai School of Coc Pang Primary School (Bao Lac, Cao Bang), some students were acting strangely like suddenly. fainting, crying, spastic limbs, fear, calling questions without answering, agitation, hitting people…

The time to appear strange symptoms is about 3-5 minutes, then gradually increase to 10-30 minutes. After these symptoms disappeared, the children fell asleep for about 10-20 minutes and woke up, communicating normally. The total number of children with this expression included 18 children (2 boys, 16 girls). Students only have strange expressions when in crowded places, at school, not when they are alone and at home.

Symptoms are contagious, starting with one student and then spreading to others. The focus of many people’s attention and care makes more students sick. In addition to the above-mentioned abnormalities, the children were alert, well-contacted, had pink skin and mucous membranes, and had a clear and regular heartbeat; Ventilated lungs on both sides, no pathology, abnormal signs were detected.

When being examined for mental health, children expressed anxiety, fear, and could not answer when the doctor asked about their medical condition. After local treatment with some basic psychological methods, most children recover completely and can return to normal classrooms.

Through the process of contacting the children, Ms. Vuong Thi Tuyen, deputy director of the Cao Bang Department of Health, said that the children showed the above symptoms due to mass hysteria. This is a group of common mental illnesses. This phenomenon occurs mainly in girls.

Characteristically, the symptoms suggest a pathology of an organ or part of the body but the cause cannot be found by the methods of clinical examination and testing.

Mass hysteria often occurs simultaneously in a group such as a school or a crowd. If not treated promptly and thoroughly, it will lead to dissociative personality traits that are difficult to treat and spread in crowded environments. This condition is treated mainly with psychotherapy and education.

For cases where a student shows signs of having a relapse many times a day and lasts for many days, the school reports, coordinates with local authorities, the student’s family to take care and monitor measures. at home from 5 to 7 days, if the student’s condition is stable, continue to study normally.

The school is also suggested to strengthen extracurricular activities such as singing, dancing, music, exercise, playing sports and collective labor… to ensure adequate nutrition and reasonable rest for students. born.
