On May 24, within the framework of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) session on development activities, a dialogue session between countries with the Resident Coordinator and United Nations agencies took place. The Ambassador emphasized that the Governments of countries bear the main responsibility for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, through building legal frameworks and mobilizing policies, mobilizing domestic and international resources and ensuring harmonized implementation at all levels, while encouraging the active participation of the people in the review and implementation of policies.
In the coming time, the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals will face many challenges, including limited resources and the need to fulfill international commitments. Therefore, people need to be placed at the center of every policy, program, and goal, strengthening national legal frameworks and institutions, increasing investment, mobilizing technical assistance and building capacity. , as well as strengthen coordination and coordination among relevant ministries and branches.
Vietnam suggested that UN agencies, including the leading role of the Resident Coordinator, should strengthen coordination activities to effectively support countries, enhance national competitiveness and establish new partnerships to support the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The Ambassador also called for adequate, sustainable and stable financing for the UN development system and the Resident Coordinator to be able to fulfill its functions.
Talking at the meeting, UN Resident Coordinator in Vietnam Pauline Tamesis, representatives of UN specialized agencies and many countries, highly appreciated Vietnam’s model and the leadership role of the Government of Vietnam in implementing the projects.
