(NSMT) – Despite having a disability, Nguyen Thanh Nghi, a student of class 11A6 at Hoang Dieu High School (Soc Trang) has high academic achievement. I have worked hard every day to reach my dream of becoming an information technology programmer.

On May 25, Soc Trang Provincial Youth Union coordinated with the Department of Education and Training, the Department of Information and Communications of Soc Trang to organize the XXV Young Informatics Contest in Soc Trang province in 2023 with the participation of 160 candidates who are students from different universities. elementary, junior high, high school and cadres, civil servants and public employees in the province. In which, students in elementary, middle and high schools test programming skills and creative products; cadres, civil servants and public employees test skills in using information technology, knowledge and ability to apply digital transformation in practice, working agencies, units and localities, and creative products contest. At the end of the contest, the organizers awarded a total of 31 prizes to candidates with good results in the content. In which, contestant Nguyen Huu Nghi, a student of class 11A6, Hoang Dieu High School, a student with disabilities won the second and third prizes.

According to Nguyen Thanh Nghi’s share, she was born in 2006 in a family whose father is a court official and mother is a secondary school teacher in An Ninh commune (Chau Thanh district, Soc Trang province). Right from birth, Nghi has suffered disadvantage when she has weak neck, weak limbs, all activities in life mainly thanks to the support of her family. But in return, I am a very strong-willed and energetic person.

“I know I am disadvantaged compared to my peers, but when I grow up, I have a sense of trying to rise above adversity to prove myself. I don’t want my parents and relatives to have to work hard to create opportunities for myself and pay filial piety to my parents,” Nghi said.

Although my hands are very weak, when I went to school, I tried a lot to hold a pen and write by myself. At first, holding the pen was a problem for me because my hands were very weak, but I tried my best, determined not to give up. Up to now, although my hands are still weak, I have listened to her and let me take notes with a pen proficiently, not losing to other classmates.

I have also found all methods such as reading books, reference materials, supplementing knowledge via the Internet… to study well. As a result of my efforts, from elementary school to 10th grade, every year I achieved an all-round excellent student, always the one with the highest average score in all subjects. In the school year 2021 – 2022, my average score in all subjects is 9.4, the student with the highest score in class 10A6 and the highest in grade 10 of the school. In the school year 2022-2023, she continued to achieve the title of excellent student with an average score of 9.1 in all subjects for the whole year. Previously, in the entrance exam to grade 10 at Hoang Dieu High School (school year 2021 – 2022), she excellently scored 62.5 points, ranking 4th out of 650 students who were admitted to this school.

With high academic achievement, Nguyen Thanh Nghi was selected to join the school’s excellent student team to participate in provincial competitions and won many prizes. In elementary school, I won the second prize in chess at the city level. In grade 9, in the contest to select excellent students at the provincial level in Mathematics, she won the third prize. In 10th grade, in the provincial math competition on Casio calculator, she also won the third prize and the encouragement prize of the provincial computer competition. In the provincial exam to select excellent students held by the Soc Trang Department of Education and Training on June 4, 2022, Nghi was also in the school’s team to participate in this contest and won the Consolation prize.

Nguyen Thanh Nghi confided: “In my first year of secondary school, I felt very guilty when I was not like other students. Seeing my friends freely walking, running and joking after school, I was very sad for myself. At that time, I also had the thought of giving up because people like me were just a burden for everyone. But at that time, my parents, family members, friends, and teachers encouraged me a lot, so I changed my mind and determined to study well to both create opportunities for myself and pay filial piety. for parents. My dream is to study information technology and become a programmer.

Talking about her classmates, Lam Tien Thinh confided: “I and Nghi study in the same class. Nghi is very hard working in her studies and she is very good at studying, often helping her friends in their studies. We very much admire your will, energy and learning spirit. It is an example for us to follow.” And Ly Vinh Hao (who studied with Nghi) added: “I studied with Nghi since 6th grade, so I understand and respect you in your will to overcome difficulties and study well. Studying together with Nghi is the joy and pride of me and my classmates.”

Sharing about his son, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Huu confided: “I was born unlucky like you, but in return, I am a very strong-willed person. That makes the family very happy, very proud of their son. We just want him to have good health so that he can continue to study more and more successfully.”
