Prison in the heart of a hospital in Ho Chi Minh City: Unique in the country, rare in the world

This workshop was jointly organized by the People’s Committee of District 5, the Hospital for Tropical Diseases and the Museum of Ho Chi Minh City, in order to contribute to clarifying the process of formation, organization, operation and forms of political prisoners in the camp. political prisoners in prison.

At the seminar, the delegates presented many papers, helping to further promote the research and collection of documents and artifacts about the prison area to serve the display and promote the value of the relic after the war. The project on renovation and embellishment of the prison area has been completed and put into service to the people.

TS.BS Le Manh Hung said that Cho Quan Hospital – Hospital for Tropical Diseases and the relic of the prison camp in the hospital is a special and unique combination model of a hospital and a prison in Vietnam and also a rare type. In the world.

“It is necessary to strengthen the work of collecting, collecting and researching documents and images about the remains of the prison camp in the heart of the oldest hospital in Vietnam so that people, present and future generations can better understand about the significance, importance, historical imprint of the hospital and the monument in the painful but brave historical period of Saigon – Gia Dinh and the South of Vietnam”, said Dr. BS Manh Hung.

Previously, the Standing Board of the City Party Committee, the Standing Committee of the City People’s Committee directed relevant units to implement a project to restore and embellish the prison area of ​​Cho Quan Hospital.

Last April, the City People’s Council issued a resolution approving the investment policy of the project to restore and embellish the relic of the prison area of ​​Cho Quan Hospital, which is managed by the Construction Investment Project Management Board in District 5.

According to this resolution, the scale of investment in repairing and embellishing the prison area of ​​Cho Quan Hospital in its original state is 822m2.² in the relic site with an area of ​​2,211.5m². The total investment of the project is 33.8 billion VND from the city budget. The project implementation period lasts from 2023 – 2025.
