The number of COVID-19 cases decreased, preparing to announce the end of the epidemic

According to statistics from the Ministry of Health, on May 26, there were 1,043 new COVID-19 cases, with 50 severe cases.

During the day, 265 people were declared cured, no deaths.

The total number of deaths from COVID-19 in Vietnam so far is 43,206, accounting for 0.4% of the total number of infections.

Regarding the situation of vaccination against COVID-19, on May 25, 1,961 doses of COVID-19 vaccine were administered, the total number of doses of which was 266,403,148 doses.

COVID-19 cases in Vietnam have fluctuated in recent years but have not increased dramatically. Vietnam is also preparing documents to announce the end of the COVID-19 epidemic.

Assoc. Prof. Do Van Dung – Dean of the Faculty of Public Health at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Ho Chi Minh City – said that although the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic has not yet ended, the current epidemic situation is relatively optimistic, with the number of cases and deaths. Deaths from COVID-19 have plummeted since the peak of the epidemic.

If you change COVID-19 to group B, you will not receive free treatment

According to an expert in the field of preventive medicine from the Ministry of Health, basically, if COVID-19 is transferred to group B, then COVID-19 will not be free of charge as before.

“However, in this regard, we have also made appropriate calculations. Currently, people have very high health insurance coverage, while patients with COVID-19 and underlying medical conditions still have to pay the cost of treating other diseases except COVID-19. Therefore, the cost of COVID-19 treatment affects only a small part of the population,” he said.

The Ministry of Health recommends that although the World Health Organization (WHO) has ended the global health emergency for COVID-19, it does not mean that COVID-19 is over.

Therefore, people need to actively prevent the epidemic, comply with the recommendations of wearing masks, disinfecting and vaccinating against COVID-19 according to the guidance of the Ministry of Health. Especially for high-risk groups, people with weakened immune systems, the elderly, with underlying medical conditions, etc., it is necessary to vaccinate with full doses and on schedule.

Since the beginning of the epidemic, Vietnam has had 11,608,697 infections, ranking 13/231 countries and territories, while with the rate of infections/1 million people, Vietnam ranks 120/231 countries and territories (116,963 infections on average for every 1 million people).
