Passage du Gois is a road connecting Burnёf Bay with the French island of Noirmoutier, about 4.1km long. At a glance, the Passage du Gois looks as normal as any other road. In fact, this road is quite dangerous, pedestrians can get stuck in the middle of the sea if they do not cross quickly.

In the past, the only way to get to Noirmoutier Island was by boat. The Passage du Gois was first mentioned on a map in 1701. By around 1804, horse-drawn carriages began traveling on this road. Since then, the Passage du Gois has become famous.

Due to the influence of the tides, this road will almost disappear at a certain time. When the tide rises, the road will be flooded at a depth of 4 meters above sea level. Drivers can only drive along the road twice a day for a few hours before it becomes completely underwater.

Despite the risks and dangerous warnings about the tides, every year there are still many adventurous tourists who come here to experience it. Although special billboards were hung along both sides of the road to warn of flooding, many tourists were still stuck on the road when the tide suddenly rose.

To prevent people or tourists walking in the middle of the road from being hit by rising water, the authorities have built rescue towers along both sides of the road so that people can temporarily climb up while waiting for help. .
