Exploiting the potential of water resources and economic development associated with eco-tourism in the Son La hydropower reservoir, the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center has implemented the model “Raising snakehead fish in cages according to VietGAP standards associated with linkage product consumption” in Quynh Nhai district, the model promises to bring many benefits.

In 2023, the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center will coordinate with Chieng On and Muong Giang communes, Quynh Nhai district, to survey and select 2 households with experience and enough human resources and cages to participate in the model. With a total budget of over 500 million VND; Of which, the state supports 70%, each household is provided with more than 1,000 breeds, weighing nearly 1.5 tons and 20 tons of mixed feed, chemicals, biological products, and essential supplies; Technical support, testing, model monitoring, VietGAP certification assessment.

With nearly 10 years of experience raising fish in cages, Mr. Dieu Chinh Tho’s family, Pa Uon village, Muong Giang commune, was chosen to implement the model. Mr. Tho shared: The family is raising 24 cages of snakehead fish and black snakehead fish, so when implementing the model, the family did not encounter many difficulties. Currently, more than 1,000 fish have been provided, with a survival rate of 90%. Participating in the model, we are also advised and guided in practicing safe farming procedures, and have a diary to care for and prevent diseases for fish.

As for Mr. Quang Van Cuong, Dong Tam village, Chieng On commune, shared: He was selected by the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center to support model building, after receiving more than 1,000 fish fingerlings and receiving technical advice and guidance. , families proactively take measures to prevent and control epidemics and apply safe farming procedures. At the end of 2023, the family will be certified for aquaculture that meets VietGAP standards. Participating in the chain model of producing and consuming safe fish locally opens up many development opportunities, increasing product value and income for the family.

Mr. Cong Xuan Ngoc, Director of the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center, said: Up to now, 2 households participating in the model have been certified as aquaculture facilities meeting VietGAP standards. This will be a demonstration model, so that local cage fish farming households can visit and learn from experience, and households participating in the model will continue to transfer, advise, and guide the techniques of raising catfish according to VietGAP standards. local households; Gradually replicate the model in the community, creating jobs and income for households in the lake area.

Currently, Quynh Nhai district maintains 256 hectares of water surface for aquaculture, with more than 4,000 fish cages. The total output of aquaculture and exploitation in the whole district reaches more than 1,800 tons/year; Of which, aquaculture output is more than 1,200 tons/year. Quynh Nhai district is promoting trade activities, investment promotion, product consumption support, encouraging cage fish farming households to apply biosafety aquaculture procedures, improving product quality, meet market demand. The successful construction of the model “Lang Nha fish farming in cages” has opened a new direction in economic development and eco-tourism in the Son La hydropower reservoir area in Quynh Nhai district.
