Research and assessment of land resources in Vinh Thuan district

Representatives of Can Tho University and leaders of Vinh Thuan district signed the handover record of the research program to evaluate land resources in Vinh Thuan district.

On the afternoon of April 23, Can Tho University handed over to the People’s Committee of Vinh Thuan district (Kien Giang), the research program to evaluate land resources to serve the sustainable development of agriculture, economy and society of Vinh Thuan district.

According to the results of investigation, survey and analysis, Vinh Thuan has 12 land-adapted regions in terms of natural conditions, 17 economically adapted regions suitable for 5 promising land use types including: Rice 2 crops, double-crop rice – cash crops, shrimp – rice, salty – brackish aquatic products and pineapple plants.

Identifying 6 areas affected by salinity and the duration of salinity affecting agricultural production; Assess the current status of freshwater resources, irrigation capacity and propose effective management measures for freshwater for agricultural production and daily life.

The program also proposes plans to arrange the use of agricultural land and fisheries until 2030, with a vision for 2040 of Vinh Thuan…

“Based on the analysis and evaluation in the program, Vinh Thuan is qualified to boldly propose and register with the People’s Committee of Kien Giang province to participate in many national agricultural programs, first of all the program 1 million hectares of high quality rice…”, said Professor, Dr. Vo Quang Minh – Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Environment and Natural Resources, Can Tho University.

Vice Chairman of Vinh Thuan District People’s Committee Le Van Du highly appreciated the practical value of the research program. At the same time, he affirmed that after receiving the program, there will be a plan to direct relevant sectors, communes and towns to research and implement in the near future…
