On April 3, 2024, at the fish pond of Mr. Lo Van Dien’s family, Nong Son village, Chieng Sung commune, suddenly there was an explosion and a column of water appeared from the pond, with a height of about 5-6m. Immediately after that, all the water and fish in the pond were sucked into a frog-shaped hole, 6 meters wide, next to the pond.

Next, on April 17, 2024, at the drainage ditch section of Nong Son village road, Mr. Quang Van Thuong’s family area, about 150m from the sinkhole of Mr. Lo Van Dien’s house, another sinkhole continued to appear. The subsidence is about 2m wide and about 7m deep.

On the same day, April 17, at Mr. Quang Van Inh’s house, about 100m from the subsidence point of Mr. Lo Van Dien’s fish pond, a crack about 2 cm wide continued to appear in the concrete yard and ran along the base of the family’s toilet wall. family; A crack about 1.5cm wide and 30m long runs along the edge of the internal concrete road.

The phenomenon of subsidence and cracks in Nong Son village continued to appear in the following days. Mr. Lo Van Dien said: The first subsidence hole appeared in my house in the village. Now the land continues to sink, the hole is wider and deeper than 2-3 m. The family is very worried, hoping the authorities will soon take care of it. come up with a treatment plan.

Mr. Quang Van Thuong also worriedly said: I have never seen this phenomenon before. At first, the subsidence hole was just close to the road in the village, but now it is sinking deeper into my family’s land. , right under the bathroom, the risk of affecting the family’s stilt house.

And Mr. Ca Van Uong said: Over the past few days, cracks 40cm wide have continued to appear on the family’s land, at the base of the stilt house’s pillars, and we keep draining the water but it is not full; Now the house is starting to tilt. If this continues, the house won’t know when it will fall. At night, the family does not feel secure when going to sleep, they have to take turns staying awake. If there is an unsafe phenomenon, they will alert everyone to move promptly.

Currently, Nong Son village has 137 households, 618 people; The village does not have a centralized rural water supply project, mainly using water from self-drilled wells and rainwater for daily life and agricultural production. Within a radius of 100m there are subsidence points, 25 households are affected, such as well water being cloudy; Cracked yard, toilet, fish pond and subsidence road…

Faced with the abnormal subsidence phenomenon, an interdisciplinary inspection team was established, including: Department of Natural Resources and Environment, Department of Science and Technology, Department of Construction of Son La province, Expert Group of Institute of Geological Sciences and Mineral Resources under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment came to inspect, conduct field surveys, evaluate and determine the cause, and agree on solutions to prevent, respond to and overcome the subsidence phenomenon in Nong Son village, Chieng Sung commune, Mai Son district.

According to initial information, the area of ​​Nong Son village, Chieng Sung commune is located in the limestone distribution area of ​​the co-ordinate formation, influenced by the Da River fault zone. Limestone at the bottom of the valley shows signs of being broken and recrystallized due to the influence of tectonic activities; The sinkhole area has a weak geological foundation on underground limestone, and is also considered to be home to many underground karst caves. Through measurements, it shows that the underground flow in the area is in the Northwest – Southeast direction, coinciding with the development direction of underground karst caves. The sinkhole area, related to the karst cave strip, develops in the Northwest – Southeast direction along young faults.

Mr. Nguyen Son Hai, Vice Chairman of Mai Son District People’s Committee, said: The District People’s Committee has directed the People’s Committee of Chieng Sung Commune to build fences and post warning signs at subsidence locations and points where subsidence continues to occur. subsidence; Regularly monitor and localize points where subsidence and cracking continue to occur; If necessary, households will be relocated from the subsidence area; Announce on the village’s loudspeakers to let all people know, do not travel at subsidence points. At the same time, review households using drilled well water; Check and understand the area and promptly detect cases of illegal well drilling.

The District People’s Committee coordinated with relevant departments, branches and branches to carry out geological surveys, evaluate, determine the causes, localize and soon have solutions for subsidence areas in Nong Son village.
