According to people living in Tam Lac 2 village, Vu Lac commune, on the morning of April 17, an ammonia transport vehicle stopped at Toan Van Company to refuel, leaking ammonia gas into the environment.

Immediately after discovering the incident, the company reported the fire prevention and fighting force of Thai Binh Provincial Police to handle the leak. However, it was still not possible to completely fix it, a certain amount of gas was released into the environment.

Also according to Ms. Tuoi, up to now, the affected rice growing households have been compensated by the company. Specifically, the compensation the company pays households is 2.3 quintals of dry rice/acre of field, 1.2 million VND/quintal of rice. The households all agreed with this compensation plan.

“There are about 80 households living in Tam Lac 2 village near the company headquarters. We have visited each family’s health. For some families with affected vegetables and trees, the company requested support.
