Seeking opinions on establishing the “Xinjiang” Geographical Indications Association

On April 24, in Tan Cuong commune (Thai Nguyen city) a conference took place to collect opinions on the contents of establishing the “Xinjiang” Geographical Indications Association. Attending the Conference were representatives of specialized agencies; Enterprises, cooperatives, business households, and families have been granted the right to use the geographical indication “Xinjiang”.

Currently, the area with the geographical indication “Tan Cuong” has 1,371.8 hectares of tea, belonging to the communes: Tan Cuong, Phuc Xuan, Phuc Triu, Thinh Duc, Quyet Thang, Phuc Ha (Thai Nguyen City); The output of fresh tea buds reaches over 20,300 tons/year. The area has 1 enterprise, 37 cooperatives, 6 cooperative groups producing and trading tea and 40 tea craft villages; Currently, there are 32 organizations and individuals producing and trading tea that are being granted the right to use the geographical indication “Xinjiang”.

In recent times, the implementation of the geographical indication “Xinjiang” has contributed to affirming the reputation, quality and enhancing the position of Thai Nguyen tea in the market. Let the system organize the management of geographical indications ” Xinjiang” is complete and operating effectively, the establishment of the “Xinjiang” Geographical Indication Association is necessary.

This is also one of the contents of the Provincial Science – Technology Project approved by the Provincial People’s Committee in November 2023: Synchronous application of intellectual property tools and measurement and quality standards, combined with conversion change the number to promote the value of the geographical indication “Xinjiang” for tea products associated with the National Intangible Cultural Heritage “Knowledge of growing and processing Xinjiang tea”.

“Xinjiang” Geographical Indication Association is a social-professional organization that gathers and protects the legitimate rights and interests of its members who are businesses, cooperatives, cooperative groups, households… participating producing and trading tea products bearing the geographical indication “Xinjiang”.

The Association has its own legal status, seal, and account; Headquarter located at Hao Dat Tea Cooperative, Tan Cuong commune (Thai Nguyen city); Operate in accordance with the law and the Association’s Charter approved by competent authorities.

Based on comments contributed at the Conference, the Campaign Committee for the establishment of the “Xinjiang” Geographical Indications Association reviewed, edited, supplemented and completed the documents. At the same time, carry out procedures and propose specialized agencies to advise on the establishment of the “Xinjiang” Geographical Indication Association and operate effectively.
