On the morning of April 24, in Ba Chuc town, the People’s Committee of Tri Ton district, An Giang province organized the inauguration of the Cultural Park and memorial stele for the Ba Chuc people massacred by Pol Pot’s genocidal army in 1978 (from April 18, 1978 – April 30, 1978) and the Memorial Ceremony for the victims murdered in the 46th War to Protect the Southwest Border.

The complex of Cultural Park and memorial stele for the Ba Chuc people massacred by Pol Pol’s genocidal army in 1978 was built near Tuong Mountain.

The memorial stele with the water lily symbol symbolizes purity, brilliance, and rising strong in difficulties like the resilient people of Ba Chuc land.

The cluster of works including the Cultural Park has a total construction cost of nearly 4.77 billion VND with 3 items: upgrading and expanding the T6 canal road, renovating the T6 canal anti-landslide embankment and art painting.

The memorial stele project has a total cost of 938 million VND. The total investment capital of the project cluster is nearly 5.71 billion VND, from the district budget and socialized capital.

The Ba Chuc cultural park and memorial stele were built to serve the needs of local people to have a place to commemorate their deceased relatives and serve their cultural activities.

At the memorial ceremony, delegates spent a minute of silence to remember the 3,157 innocent victims living in the Tuong Mountain and Dai Mountain areas who were murdered by Pol Pot’s genocidal army.

In addition, there are also activities such as prayer opening ceremonies and prayers for the deceased; Burning flower lanterns, expressing sympathy for the deceased and wishing the Ba Chuc land to always be peaceful and happy…

Showing responsibility and affection for the innocent deceased people of Ba Chuc, immediately after the War to protect the Southwest border ended, the Party, State and An Giang province built the Ba Chuc Tomb House.

In 2013, An Giang province upgraded it to the Ba Chuc Tomb House Historical Relic Area to commemorate the massacre victims and educate patriotic traditions for future generations.

Currently, 1,159 skulls are preserved here, of which 1,017 skulls have been determined in age and sex.

Mr. Pham Minh Hien, Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Ba Chuc town, said that in 1980, the relic complex of Ba Chuc Tomb House, Tam Buu Pagoda, Phi Lai Pagoda was recognized as a historical relic. nation.

After that, the relic complex was restored and upgraded twice by the People’s Committee of An Giang province on a 4-hectare campus, of which, the Ba Chuc Tomb House historical relic site was completely built in 2013; The remains displayed in the tomb are periodically preserved by An Giang Provincial Museum for long-term survival.


Tay Ninh Provincial Youth Union held a meeting to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the Victory in the War to protect the Southwestern border of the Fatherland and join the Cambodian army and people in defeating the genocidal regime (January 7, 1979-2024).
