Along with converting the functions of Bien Hoa 1 Industrial Park, propose the idea of ​​converting the functions of Bien Hoa 2 Industrial Park, in the draft of the Overall Adjustment Project of Bien Hoa City General Planning to 2045 , Long Binh Tan port area, Dong Nai Port has also proposed the idea of ​​converting functions by reconstructing the space of this area.

Currently, Dong Nai Port has a scale of more than 5.4 hectares. This is a general port, with an output of more than 600 thousand tons of goods per year.

In the planning of Vietnam’s seaport system for the period from 2021 to 2030, with a vision to 2050, Dong Nai Port is a type 1 seaport (seaport group No. 4) with the function of a satellite wharf and consolidation hub. goods for regional seaports, associated with dry port functions. Dong Nai Port has a container and general terminal, meeting ship sizes of up to 5 thousand tons.

According to the consulting unit that created the Master Plan Adjustment Project of Bien Hoa City to 2045, Dong Nai Port is currently an important logistics infrastructure in the region. Therefore, in the period up to 2030, Dong Nai Port will still maintain operations. However, the current and future trend of maritime logistics development will shift towards using large, automated container ships to increase efficiency and reduce costs. With this trend, Dong Nai Port’s position will also gradually decrease.

On the other hand, also according to the consulting unit, after 2030, major seaports in the region are expected to be completed. At that time, if the role of Dong Nai Port is no longer important, the port can be developed into a public space. , trade services, entertainment, tourism.

In 1991, Long Binh Tan Port with a 20,000DWT wharf was built. In 2010, Long Binh Tan Container Port was inaugurated and immediately opened the access route to the port in 2011.

Director of the Department of Construction Ho Van Ha said that the Department of Construction highly supports the idea of ​​converting the functions of Dong Nai Port. Mr. Ha added that recently, the Provincial People’s Committee directed relevant agencies to review the planning of Ring Road 3 – Ho Chi Minh City and Phuoc An Port. When the connected transport infrastructure system, specifically Ring Road 3 – Ho Chi Minh City, is completed and Phuoc An Port comes into operation, seaport transportation capacity can gradually be converted from Port Dong Nai to Phuoc An Port.

“Phuoc An Port in Nhon Trach district is close to Cai Mep – Thi Vai Seaport, so in the long run it will develop better than Dong Nai Port” – Mr. Ho Van Ha said.

* Rebuild Dong Nai Port into a public, commercial and service space

Based on the proposal to consider converting the function of Dong Nai Port after 2030, the consulting unit that created the Master Plan Adjustment Project of Bien Hoa City to 2045 also proposed the idea of ​​reconstructing the area’s space. this area.

Based on the international experience of the Kobe Port Reconstruction model (Japan), the unit has proposed a plan to rebuild Dong Nai Port into a public space, commercial service, entertainment and tourism.

According to the consulting unit, in the early stages, Kobe Port of Kobe city played an important role in economic development. However, due to the shifting trend of the world maritime logistics industry towards using large ships and deep-water ports, the old port area located near the urban center has been converted into a public and commercial center. service. After reconstruction, this area is now a famous tourist destination in the Kansai region.

Mr. Ho Van Ha said that the orientation to convert functions and rebuild Dong Nai Port according to the Kobe Port model is appropriate. In fact, not only abroad, in Vietnam, Ba Son Port, Ho Chi Minh City has also converted its function after “completing its historic mission”.

In the Bien Hoa urban development orientation until 2045, the basic goal is to gradually shift the urban structure from an industrial urban area to a service and industrial urban area. Therefore, the conversion of Dong Nai Port’s functions is considered consistent with planning goals. On the other hand, converting the function of Dong Nai Port located in the inner city area of ​​Bien Hoa city will also help reduce traffic pressure on the already overloaded traffic infrastructure system of Bien Hoa urban area.
