In Ly Son island district, Quang Ngai province, the cultural belief of worshiping Ong fish (whale) of fishermen is to give thanks and pray for the people of the island district to be safe and exploit many products from the sea. That’s why on Ly Son island there are dozens of tombs worshiping the Ong fish. Here, there are two giant whale skeletons dating back about 200 years that have been restored and put into exploitation by the local government, contributing to cultural products that attract tourists to the island.

From 2021, after being restored, the two whale skeletons at Lang Tan and the whale worship ritual will be exploited by Ly Son district, becoming a typical tourism product to attract tourists. In 2023, this tourist destination alone will welcome about 150,000 visitors to visit and admire the two unique whale skeletons in Vietnam, which are kept almost intact in the island district. Currently, the local government is establishing records and completing procedures to submit to the Vietnam Record Organization to recognize these as the two largest whale skeletons at Lang Tan in Vietnam.
