“Go abroad” to eradicate hunger and reduce poverty

Binh Son 2 village, Ta Ca commune, Ky Son border mountainous district (Nghe An), the population here is mainly Kho Mu people. Due to the terrain conditions of many high mountains and hills, divided traffic, and lack of production materials, people’s lives and economy still face many difficulties.

In recent years, with support and loan policies from the State, many people in Binh Son 2 village have chosen to work abroad. Thanks to stable jobs and high salaries, many households have saved money to build houses, and the village has also become richer and richer.

In a solid 3-room stilt house with a clean tiled floor, many villagers came to visit and congratulate Mr. Cut Van Phach (residing in Binh Son 2 village, Ta Ca commune) whose labor contract had just expired. Returned from Taiwan (China).

Mr. Phach said that in the past, due to difficult circumstances, every year he only looked forward to one farming season, so his family’s life was always surrounded by poverty. In 2022, this man boldly applied for a loan from the Bank for Social Policies to export labor.

After more than 2 years working abroad, Mr. Phach regularly sent home more than 10 million VND to his family every month. In addition, Mr. Phach also saved more than 300 million VND for business capital. For a difficult mountainous area like Ky Son district, this is a huge amount of money.

Like Mr. Phach, Mr. Lu Van Keo’s family (residing in Binh Son 2 village, Ta Ca commune) has many children and no stable job. Previously, 7 people had to live in a temporary wooden house. substandard.

Two years ago, Mr. Keo borrowed money for the family’s eldest son to go to work abroad in Taiwan. To date, the son has sent home more than 200 million VND to his family. Thanks to this money, Mr. Keo built a solid stilt house and accumulated capital for business.

“My family used to be very poor, but since my son went abroad to work and sent money back to the family, we have been able to build a stilt house to live in. Now there is no longer poverty like before,” Mr. Keo shared.

Seeing the economic efficiency of their predecessors, many young people in the village also followed suit. The number of people going to work abroad is increasing, mainly in: Japan, Taiwan and Korea…

Ms. La Thi Hong Van – Vice Chairwoman of the People’s Committee of Ta Ca commune, Ky Son district, said that in the commune there are more than 100 people going abroad to work, some families with both husband and wife going abroad. The average remittance to the family through the bank is from 10 – 20 million VND/month, creating a stable income.

“Binh Son 2 is the village with the largest number of workers working abroad. In the coming time, the government will continue to encourage, support and introduce high-income, stable orders for people in need,” Ms. Van shared.

Mr. Lu Van Keo’s family has a good economy and a spacious house thanks to having children working abroad.

Promote supportive policies

Currently, ethnic minority workers in Nghe An are receiving support from Subproject 3, under Project 4, the National Target Program (NTP) for sustainable poverty reduction in 2023 and Subproject 3, under Project 4. Project 5 National Target Program for socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas in the period 2021 – 2030.

Workers have access to labor market information, search support services, and job connection. Support ethnic minority youth after graduating from higher education and vocational education institutions to find jobs suitable to their abilities and aspirations.

According to Nghe An Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, in 2023, Nghe An province will have about 24,000 people going to export labor. However, a large proportion are still workers in delta and urban districts such as Nghi Loc, Yen Thanh, Cua Lo…

Workers in mountainous districts, especially ethnic minorities, mainly work far away in provinces and cities, and the rate of labor export is still low. Each district has only a few hundred people like Con Cuong district has more than 300 people, Ky Son district has nearly 200 people, Quy Chau district has more than 260 people…

With the consent of the National Assembly, the People’s Committee of Nghe An province recently issued a document allowing the extension of the implementation time and disbursement of capital for the National Target Programs and the 2023 Socio-Economic Recovery and Development Program to next year. 2024.

Thanks to this important policy, people in western Nghe An districts, especially ethnic minorities, have more opportunities to benefit from the State’s support in finding jobs and exporting labor. .

Sending Vietnamese workers to work abroad under contracts is a major policy of the Party and State. Young people in Ky Son highland district who go abroad to work not only have a better life when they return, but also acquire more skills and knowledge.
