On April 24, Ms. Pham Thi Huong – Chairwoman of the People’s Committee of Ly Son district (Quang Ngai province) confirmed that in the Ly Son sea area, there had just been a sinking of a ship towing a barge carrying rocks.
Initial information, on the same morning, tugboat LA-06695 with engine capacity of 350CV, belonging to Minh Linh Company Limited, towed barge LA-06883 carrying stone from Ky Ha to Ly Son island district.
When the barge reached the sea area about 3 nautical miles from Ly Son island, the barge suddenly sank.
Discovering the incident, fishermen fishing nearby reported it to the authorities.
At 10:30 this afternoon, the authorities discovered and recovered 3 bodies near the location of the barge in distress.
According to the list of crew members issued to leave the port to move at sea provided by the Quang Nam Maritime Port Authority, there are 5 crew members on the tugboat.
Currently, Quang Ngai Maritime Port Authority is deploying professional expertise, coordinating with Ly Son District People’s Committee and Ly Son District Border Guard Station to carry out search activities for the remaining 2 crew members.
In addition, the port authority also notified the Region II Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center to support search and rescue vehicles.
