Believing the words, Mr. Long’s family sold all their houses, properties, fields and gardens, collecting nearly 1.2 billion VND. In November 2023, the whole family of 7 packed up and went to Ha Tinh and then to Thailand.

When he arrived in Bangkok (Thailand), Mr. Long became disillusioned. “My family was taken to a cramped, smelly room with a rental price of 6 million Vietnamese dong/month. The family was placed under house arrest, only allowed to go to the market once every 3 days,” Mr. Long recalled.

Having no job and being abandoned, in early 2024, Mr. Long returned to rebuild his life. Ms. Hoang Thi Tang, Mr. Long’s wife, said that 7 of the family of 12 have only returned to Vietnam, while 5 of them are still stuck in Thailand.

“We are very sorry and hope that the authorities and police forces will help the remaining 5 family members to return home,” Ms. Tang hoped.

Every day, N. and V. have to work 14 – 16 hours and are not allowed to leave the company. On September 16, 2023, the family sent a ransom, and N. and V. were released to Vietnam.

Major Nguyen Trong Hung, deputy head of Cu Ewi Commune Police, said that people need to be very wary of “light jobs with high salaries” scams.

Families with teenage children looking for jobs need to learn and guide their children to avoid falling into the traps of scammers.

“Citizens who want to go to work need to research carefully, contact local authorities for advice and support and must comply with the law on immigration,” Mr. Hung said. .

Luckily, he received help from the authorities and was repatriated.

“We organize talks in which people who have been deceived talk directly about what they have experienced and the reality of life abroad. Through that, we also let people understand and avoid falling into the “trap”. scam, “lost money, disabled”, Mr. Huu shared.

Work online fraud from 12-16 hours/day

According to Dak Lak Provincial Police leaders, the victims tricked into working in Cambodia are mainly between the ages of 18 and 35 years old.

The victims were then forced to work 12-16 hours a day, not allowed to leave the facility, and sold to other employers.

In particular, human traffickers also force victims to call their families and relatives in Vietnam to pay a ransom of 3,000 USD to 30,000 USD before returning home.

Many people escaped without ransom money and were beaten, mistreated, and sold to different establishments by their employers.
