On April 24, the People’s Court of Bac Lieu province held a first instance trial and sentenced defendant Ong Thi Kim Loi (40 years old, residing in Long Thanh commune, Vinh Loi district, Bac Lieu) to 15 years in prison for fraudulent appropriation of property.

According to the indictment, in 2016, Kim Loi owned the group and directly campaigned and invited hundreds of people living in Vinh Loi District and Bac Lieu City to participate. Loi’s form of playing hui has 4 types, including: half-month hui, 1 month, 2 months, 4 months. The value of each piece ranges from 500,000 VND to 5 million VND.
During the operation, some members received contributions but were slow to contribute or did not contribute until they died, so Loi used part of the members’ contributions from other groups to fill the gap. In addition, Loi also paid interest to members and spent on personal expenses, leading to a deficit and imbalance in revenue and expenditure.
In order to have money to fill the clans, Loi used a fake name to participate in the clans, impersonated a member of the clan to receive the bribes, and sold them falsely… in order to appropriate other people’s money. When he could no longer carry out the act of appropriation, on September 1, 2022, Loi announced his bankruptcy.
The indictment alleges that, through his activities as a guild owner, Loi used fraudulent tricks to appropriate money contributed by hundreds of guild members in the areas of Vinh Loi District and Bac Lieu City to participate in 34 scams and sales. they failed, with a total amount of more than 5.6 billion VND.
