On April 24, Nghe An province organized a program to meet Dien Bien soldiers, young volunteers, and frontline civilians on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 – May 7, 2024). ),

Attending the meeting were representatives of Military Region IV Command; leaders of Nghe An province and especially 150 delegates who are Dien Bien soldiers, young volunteers, and frontline workers – those who devoted their strength, flesh and blood to make Dien Bien Phu Victory.

70 years ago, Nghe An was a solid rear base for the battlefields of the Dien Bien Phu Campaign. Since February 1954, implementing the general mobilization order to serve the Dien Bien Phu Campaign, 5,438 Nghe An young people enthusiastically joined the army.

Dedicated to serving the campaign, in just a short time, the Nghe An rear had warehoused 1,460 tons of dried and cleaned rice; Transported 5,000 tons of food to the Dien Bien front line.

In addition, Nghe An youth volunteers stood side by side with the army and people across the country to overcome high passes, deep streams and enemy bombs to supply weapons, ammunition and food to the soldiers.

Just on the first day of the Lunar New Year 1954, there were 32,000 citizens of Nghe An province, including 2,000 people on bicycles and thousands of new recruits, volunteer workers, and military technical workers who enthusiastically set out for the front line.

At the program, former Dien Bien soldiers, young volunteers, and frontline workers shared unforgettable memories. The soldiers and young people of Nghe An contributed their efforts along with the people of the whole country to create the Dien Bien Phu victory that “shocked five continents and made the world famous”.

Veteran Nguyen Canh Thin is 96 years old this year, a former soldier of Regiment 174, Division 316. In 1954, Nguyen Canh Thin was a 26-year-old young man, still single, determined to go to the battlefield. “I just remember being excited, leaving very enthusiastically. In war, everyone thinks about death, but is not afraid. If I lose, I will only sacrifice myself, but in return, gaining the whole country and the Fatherland is a huge gain,” the former Dien Bien soldier recalled.

And Mr. Pham Ngoc Hoa (Da Son commune, Do Luong, Nghe An) volunteered to join the youth volunteer force when he was 17 years old. “In October 1953, I left. In my whole neighborhood that day, there were up to 50 volunteers, but only 4 people were chosen, including me. In the arduous Northwest mountains, I participated in paving roads, leveling bomb craters, and disposing of slow-burning bombs at Pha Din Pass. That is the vital route transporting weapons, ammunition, food, and medicine to the Dien Bien battlefield,” Mr. Hoa proudly said.
