The exhibition introduces more than 300 images, documents and artifacts kept at the Vietnam Military History Museum, Vietnam National Museum of History and the State Department of Records and Archives, to tell the story of the campaign. As concluded by General Commander Vo Nguyen Giap at the Dien Bien Phu Campaign Staff Conference on February 7, 1954;

Medium machine guns used by the fighting group of hero Be Van Dan in the battle at Muong Pon (Lai Chau), December 1953;

On the map of Dien Bien Phu captured by the French army, Colonel Dao Van Truong – acting commander of Artillery Group 351, used the artillery command in the campaign;

The combat diagram was drawn by the Department of Operations, General Staff, to serve the Dien Bien Phu Front Command;

General Navarre’s letter written on May 11, 1954 requested General Vo Nguyen Giap to allow the evacuation of prisoners of war and wounded soldiers in Dien Bien Phu by plane…

The exhibition also displays the storm lamp used at the Dien Bien Phu Campaign Command Headquarters.

That lamp witnessed many nights of brainstorming and calculating by the generals who commanded the campaign until the day of victory.

Notably, the exhibition also introduces many touching artifacts of our soldiers and militia during the Dien Bien Phu Campaign.

Like the bamboo hat of Hero of the People’s Armed Forces Tran Can used in the battle of Him Lam hill. He was the one who planted the flag on Him Lam hill.

The story of this hero’s courage and sacrifice at the exhibition also touched viewers.

As the story goes, during the battle of Him Lam base, which opened the Dien Bien Phu campaign, Tran Can – deputy infantry company, regiment 209, division 312, was assigned to command the squad to penetrate and destroy the headquarters. Plant the flag of determination to win on the enemy post.

Overcoming fierce enemy artillery fire, he commanded the unit to quickly overcome the front bunker, attack the headquarters, and plant the flag of decisive victory on the French headquarters bunker.

He heroically sacrificed himself on the morning of May 7, 1954, when he was only about 300 meters from the Command Headquarters of the Dien Bien Phu Base Group.

Tran Can’s heroic death right before the coming moment of resounding victory made exhibition viewers choked with emotion about sacrifice, understanding the price of peace and independence.

There are still many war artifacts that civilians used to serve the Dien Bien Phu front, which also makes viewers today tear up because of the spirit of solidarity and determination to win of our people in general and our community. Northern ethnic minorities in particular.
