People are suffocated by dikes filled with garbage in Dien Chau district

--

According to people’s feedback, we approached the Van creek dyke, located in Yen Thinh hamlet, Dien Ngoc commune, Dien Chau district (Nghe An). Here, all kinds of garbage, including carcasses of poultry and animals, are thrown haphazardly from the dike to the edge of Van creek.

Upstream of Van creek along the dike, garbage overflowed for more than 300m, occupying most of the walkway on the dike. Garbage clings to every tree stump and branch of the mangrove forests along the Van creek. We wore 2 layers of masks and still smelled the strong stench.

Ms. Phan Thi, a resident of Yen Thinh hamlet, Dien Ngoc commune, Dien Chau district reflected: “Garbage here has existed for many years, households around this area suffer from pollution and stench. It’s very miserable. When it’s sunny, windy or rainy, the stench is strong all day and night. Our people urgently request the government to take strong measures to end the situation of littering in the community yards to return purity to the environment and people’s lives.”

An old man nearby also said in frustration: “There are hot days when flies fly in flocks. When I lift up my bowl of rice, I see flies flying like rice husks. The stench from the landfill comes up and I can’t swallow it. It’s so miserable.” .

Not only Yen Thinh hamlet and Dien Ngoc commune are affected, but the pollution also affects neighboring hamlets. Many households near the People’s Committee of Dien Ngoc commune reflect that the stench in the “garbage dump” of Yen Thinh hamlet that they always come to “visit” is very unpleasant.

According to residents of Dien Ngoc commune, every year, the amount of garbage from here flows down the Lach Van river into the sea with the rain and flows into the sea in huge quantities.

Herds of cows often come to the landfill to feed

Discussing this issue, Mr. Tran Van Nghia, head of Yen Thinh hamlet, said that in this waste situation, not only people in this hamlet but also people from other hamlets come to steal garbage at night, so new garbage is generated. so much. Last Lunar New Year, the commune also collected it for processing, but it still went there.

When we reflected on the waste situation in Yen Thinh hamlet, Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Dien Ngoc commune, affirmed that there was no such overwhelming waste situation. The commune has contracted with Dien Chau Green Environment Joint Stock Company to collect household waste in Dien Ngoc commune to the waste area of Nghi Yen commune, Nghi Loc district for processing.

However, through actual surveys, we found that this place is filled with horrifying waste as mentioned above. According to people’s feedback, this incident has been going on for many years but has not been thoroughly resolved. Although this landfill is only about 600m from Dien Ngoc Commune People’s Committee.

In response to feedback about the waste pollution in Dien Ngoc commune, Mr. Truong Van Duc, Head of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Dien Chau district, called to urge the authorities of Dien Ngoc commune to thoroughly handle it. However, several days have passed. The pollution situation in Yen Thinh hamlet has not been treated yet.

When the tide rises, a large amount of garbage will follow Van creek into the sea

In fact, indiscriminate waste disposal in Dien Ngoc commune has ruined the beauty of the coastal tourist area, obstructed traffic, seriously polluted the living environment, and affected the health and lives of surrounding people. this area. More serious is the huge amount of waste that flows into the sea every year along Van creek, combined with waste in many places, causing serious consequences.

According to Mr. Le Manh Hien, Vice Chairman of Dien Chau District People’s Committee, currently, Dien Chau district does not have a waste treatment plant. The district government has also called for businesses but there has been no investment. There are a few individuals who intend to do it, but after the survey, the cost is double the people’s contribution so it cannot be done.

This person explained: “Currently, the issue of building a waste treatment plant is deadlocked, communes have to contract with Dien Chau Green Environment Joint Stock Company to collect household waste to the area. waste treatment in Nghi Yen commune, Nghi Loc district, however, some people’s awareness is too poor and they keep littering.”
