According to authorities, hail was recorded in some localities of Van Ban district. In particular, in Khanh Yen Trung, Khanh Yen Thuong communes and Van Ban town, there were two hail storms lasting from 6:30 p.m. to 6:35 p.m. and 6:38 p.m. to 6:48 p.m., with dense intensity.

Hailstones are 2 – 3cm in size, some are as big as chicken eggs.

Currently, there are no specific statistics on damage. Initially, it was noted that some areas of trees, crops and people’s houses were affected.

Currently, the weather in some areas of Lao Cai still shows signs of continuing to become complicated. Authorities advise people to proactively prevent harmful extreme weather.

Hail lasted 30 minutes in Son La

At about 4:00 p.m. today (April 24), in Long Luong commune, Van Ho district, Son La province, a hailstorm occurred that lasted for about 30 minutes.

Heavy rain and large hailstones cause great damage to crops and people’s houses.

According to Chairman of the People’s Committee of Long Luong Commune, Giang A De assessed that this was the largest hailstorm ever to occur in the area.

According to initial statistics, the hail did not cause any loss of life but damaged about 400 hectares of crops and perennial fruit trees, of which more than 200 hectares were completely damaged. In addition, hail also punctured and broke the roofs of more than 30 houses.

Mr. Giang A De also said that the hailstorm that occurred in the commune caused damage mainly to short-term crops such as cabbage, beans, and corn. Many areas of peaches and plums are affected, there is a high risk that there will be no fruit to harvest this season.

Commune leaders reported to Van Ho district to grasp information on the situation and conduct statistics on the area of ​​crops and agricultural production of the people damaged.

The commune authorities also visited and encouraged households whose houses and crops were damaged; People are advised to cover their roofs with tarpaulins and move furniture and household items to prevent rain and leaks from causing further damage.

Families with damaged roofs need to move to other households to avoid and take shelter to ensure personal safety.

In addition, the commune also made plans and mobilized on-site forces to support and help people overcome the consequences and organize farming and crop production after natural disasters.
