Vietnam owns Southeast Asia’s leading mineral resources, how to exploit and process them effectively?

On the morning of April 24, the 6th International Exhibition on Mining Industry, Mineral Resource Recovery and Construction of Vietnam (Mining Vietnam 2024) was officially opened in Hanoi.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Phan Xuan Thuy, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industry Group, said that Vietnam is considered a country with diverse mineral resources, with more than 5,000 mine locations concentrated. of 60 types of minerals such as coal, bauxite ore, apatite, titanium, rare earths…

With a mining history of nearly 180 years, Vietnam’s coal industry has long become a key mining industry to ensure national energy security goals. In addition, bauxite ore with reserves of up to 5.8 million tons has made Vietnam the country possessing the second largest potential for bauxite ore globally (United States Geological Survey (USGS), 2023). .

Mr. Ben Wong, General Director of Informa Markets Vietnam, Head of the Event Organizing Committee also commented that Vietnam is one of the countries with the largest mineral mining reserves in Southeast Asia.

However, how can Vietnam move towards a net-zero emissions economy, transitioning to green technology while still ensuring the efficient use of existing resources? The key lies in continuing to invest in innovation, science and technology to optimize mining processes and reduce carbon emissions.

This year, the exhibition has a total area of ​​more than 6,000 m2²bringing together more than 200 leading domestic and international businesses from 17 countries and territories, such as: England, India, Poland, Republic of Zambia, Taiwan (China), Germany, Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, USA, Japan, France, Singapore, China, Australia, Vietnam and Italy.

Besides corporate booths, the event also welcomes 3 international booth groups from India, Australia and China. The event is expected to attract more than 3,000 specialized visitors.
