VHO – From April 15 to 19, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) held the 45th session of the Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR/45) at WIPO Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.

Attending the meeting were representatives from member countries of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and delegates representing non-governmental organizations (associations, associations) of the country and international.

The Vietnamese delegation attending the meeting included Deputy Director of the Copyright Department (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) Le Minh Tuan; Head of Management and International Cooperation on Copyright and Related Rights (Copyright Department) Quan Tuan An; Chairman of Vietnam Creativity and Copyright Association (VCCA) Bui Nguyen Hung; Member of the Association’s Executive Committee, General Director of BH Media Nguyen Hai Binh; Director of Vietnam Center for Creative Technology and Digital Copyright Development Lam Thi Oanh.

Specifically, the meeting program focused on discussing 3 main contents including the draft Treaty regulating the organization of broadcasting; limitations and exceptions on copyright and related rights in cases of use in libraries, archives, educational and research facilities and people with disabilities; Other related content such as AI and copyright, copyright protection in the digital environment…

In addition to accessing and updating new information on copyright and related rights, the VCCA working group had a working session with Mr. Andrew Michael Ong, Director of the Department of National and Asian Development – Pacific and Mr. Dimiter Gantchev, Deputy Director – senior manager of the Department of Information and Digital Access in the field of creative industries and Copyright and related experts of WIPO.

At the meeting, the parties discussed the contents of the cooperation program. Accordingly, WIPO is very interested in supporting Vietnam to organize investigations and evaluate the contribution of copyright-based creative industries to the national economy. WIPO has supported implementation in regional countries such as Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, and Thailand.

The VCCA delegation also had a working session with Ms. Miyuki Monroig, WIPO expert in charge of copyright and collective representative organization of copyright and related rights. The delegation exchanged and provided information about VCCA’s operations and organization, predicting that VCCA’s activities could cooperate with WIPO in the near future.
