More than 100 delegates representing soldiers, youth volunteers, and frontline civilians of Nghe An province participated in the Participation Campaign.

On the morning of April 24, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 – May 7, 2024), the Provincial Party Committee, People’s Council, People’s Committee, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee Nghe An province organized a meeting of gratitude for soldiers, young volunteers, frontline civilians, those who directly participated in combat, served in combat, and contributed to the Dien Bien Phu Campaign.

At the meeting program, delegates were moved to listen to representatives of Dien Bien soldiers, young volunteers, and frontline workers recall unforgettable memories during their participation in the old campaign.

On December 6, 1953, the Politburo of the Party Central Committee met and decided to open the Dien Bien Phu campaign. The provinces of Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and Ha Tinh were assigned the task of providing maximum human and material resources to serve this strategic battle.

To supply supplies from the rear of Inter-Region IV to the Dien Bien Phu battlefield, one had to go through a long and difficult journey. With the motto “All for the front line, all for victory!”, Nghe An province mobilized 6,600 citizens, repaired and opened new roads with a length of 320km, built dozens of large bridges, small through key areas leading to the front line.

Since February 1954, implementing the general mobilization order to serve the Campaign, 5,438 Nghe An young people enthusiastically joined the army and joined main army units, exceeding the prescribed target. The local soldiers alone have mobilized 1,924 young people. All of these human resources were promptly supplemented by combat units and combat service in all battlefields of the Dien Bien Phu campaign.

During 56 days and nights of digging into mountains, sleeping in underground tunnels, soaking in rain, squeezing rice, fighting and serving under the rain of bombs and bullets from the enemy, there have been countless examples of courage and cunning. Among the officers and soldiers of Dien Bien who were awarded and posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the People’s Armed Forces by the State, Nghe An province was honored with 3 people.
