At noon on April 24, Ms. Pham Thi Huong – Chairwoman of the People’s Committee of Ly Son district, Quang Ngai province, said that in the Ly Son sea area, there had just been a sinking of a ship towing a barge carrying rocks.

According to Ms. Huong, the incident was discovered by fishermen who went fishing, so they reported it to the authorities. To date, authorities have recovered 3 bodies. Ly Son District People’s Committee has directed functional forces to coordinate with Quang Ngai province border guards and Quang Ngai Maritime Port Authority to organize search and rescue.

Meanwhile, Quang Ngai Maritime Port Authority informed that early this morning, tugboat LA-06695 towing barge LA-06883 was moving from Ky Ha (Quang Nam province) to Ly Son (Quang Ngai), on the sailing to the sea area near Ly Son island, the tugboat had an incident causing the barge to sink.

At 10:30 a.m., authorities discovered and recovered 3 bodies near the location of the barge in distress. According to the list of crew members issued to leave the port to move at sea provided by the Quang Nam Maritime Port Authority, there are 5 crew members on the tugboat.

Quang Ngai Maritime Port Authority is deploying professional expertise, coordinating with Ly Son District People’s Committee and Ly Son District Border Guard Station to carry out search activities for the remaining 2 crew members.

Tug LA-06695 belongs to Minh Linh Company Limited, has registration class VR-SB, DWT: 9, GT: 40, engine capacity 350 CV. Barge LA-06683 belongs to Minh Linh Company Limited, has registration class VR-SB, DWT: 1366.49, GT: 659.7.
