Sam Son is known as the most famous tourist destination in Thanh Hoa with beautiful natural landscapes and a long coastline; Therefore, Sam Son beach was chosen as the venue for the VTV8 Cup 2024 National Beach Tennis Championship – Sam Son, Thanh Hoa. The award was organized by the Vietnam Television Center for the Central Region – Central Highlands (VTV8) in collaboration with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Thanh Hoa province and the City People’s Committee. Sam Son and Vietnam Tennis Federation organized.
Beach tennis is a combination of tennis and volleyball, appearing in the world since the 1970s. Currently, this sport is present in more than 53 countries such as England, Italy, Brazil, Spain, America and European countries. The International Tennis Federation ITF recognized the sport in 2010 and aims to become the leading beach sport, available to professional and youth athletes worldwide. In Vietnam, Hai Tien beach (Thanh Hoa) will be the first host location for this tournament.
“Beach tennis is an international sport that has been included in the official competition system of continents. The Southeast Asian Sports Federation has also included this sport in competition at the 2025 Sea Games. Organizing tournaments Matches like this are an opportunity for us to approach, train, and improve the achievements of Vietnam’s beach tennis in the region and internationally” – Mr. Doan Thanh Tung, former General Secretary of the Tennis Federation Vietnamese tennis player, tournament advisor, said.
To ensure the organization was completed, VTV8, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Thanh Hoa province, Sam Son City People’s Committee, and the Vietnam Tennis Federation worked together to carry out the event. The organizing committee went to Pattaya beach in Thailand to learn experience in organizing an international tournament.
The tournament has the participation of professional and semi-professional players from tennis clubs and federations across the country. The tournament’s matches will be broadcast on national television channel VTV8, Thanh Hoa Radio and Television Station and on digital platforms of VTV8 and the Vietnam Tennis Federation (VTF). This is also an opportunity to introduce and promote the potential and beauty of Thanh Hoa beach tourism.
