Dan Sinh – Phu Yen launched the 2024 Occupational Safety and Health Action Month

The program took place simultaneously to celebrate the 138th anniversary of International Labor Day, May 1 (May 1, 1886 – May 1, 2024) at Hoa Hiep Industrial Park, Dong Hoa town.

Occupational safety and hygiene action month (OSH) 2024 with the theme “Strengthening occupational safety and hygiene at the workplace and in the supply chain” takes place from May 1 to May 31. 5.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Phan Dai Thang, Deputy Director of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, affirmed that the issue of OSH is increasingly important, this is a major policy of the Party and State. The legal system on OSH has been implemented effectively.

The OSH Law and documents guiding its implementation step by step enter the lives of all classes of people. The National Occupational Safety and Health Week – Fire and Explosion Prevention (OSH-PCCN) taking place in the middle of March every year has been replaced by the OSH Action Month.

According to Mr. Phan Dai Thang, in the past year, OSH work in Phu Yen province has had positive changes; Enterprises have gradually raised awareness of compliance with laws on OSH.

Some employers have proactively implemented measures to ensure OSH, improved working conditions at the workplace, environmental sanitation and provided labor protection equipment for employees.

However, labor accidents and occupational diseases still occur and tend to increase in some occupations such as construction, industrial machine operation, mechanics, and construction materials production.

Especially fatal occupational accidents occur in areas without labor contracts. In 2023 in Phu Yen province, according to statistical reports of 48 businesses, there were 36 occupational accidents, killing 1 person, injuring 32 people slightly, and seriously injuring 5 people.

According to reports from districts, towns and cities, 13 occupational accidents occurred among workers without labor contracts, killing 9 people and seriously injuring 4 people.

Mr. Phan Dai Thang said, there are many reasons leading to occupational accidents, such as employers not developing safe working procedures and measures, not equipping workers with personal protective equipment; Failure to organize OSH training or inadequate training for workers; Machinery and equipment are not safe when put into production operation.

In addition, there are also subjective reasons of employees for violating labor safety procedures. Employees refuse to use or use personal protective equipment improperly.

Therefore, to perform well OSH work and minimize occupational accidents and occupational diseases, Mr. Phan Dai Thang said that business leaders, workers and local authorities need to strictly implement Directive No. 31-CT /TW dated March 19, 2024 on continuing to strengthen the Party’s leadership in OSH work in the new situation.

Promote propaganda work on OSH so that workers are aware of their rights and obligations, businesses and employers are fully aware of their responsibilities according to the provisions of law and local government agencies. methods to raise awareness of responsibility to properly carry out propaganda and advocacy work as well as inspect, examine and handle violations of OSH.

Mr. Phan Dai Thang also requested businesses to review and supplement regulations, procedures, and technical measures for labor safety in departments and workshops; Self-inspect, review and evaluate OSH risks for machines, equipment and supplies with strict OSH requirements.

Units that carry out inspection of machines, equipment, and supplies with strict OSH requirements before being put into use according to the provisions of law; Implement a regime of equipping personal protective equipment and in-kind compensation for workers according to the provisions of law.

Units organize full OSH training on safe working knowledge and skills for workers; Carry out self-inspection at the unit, organize periodic health checks, and early detection of occupational diseases for workers.

Units declare and register machines, equipment, supplies and substances with strict OSH requirements at the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs according to the provisions of law.

“There is no greater happiness than when your loved ones work in a safe working environment, so doing good OSH work means protecting the assets of the business and protecting your loved ones. , bringing happiness to the families of workers, contributing to the goal of industrialization and modernization of the country”, Mr. Phan Dai Thang shared.

At the ceremony, Ms. Cao Thi Hoa An, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People’s Council of Phu Yen province also directed sectors, levels and businesses in the province to promote information, propaganda and promotion work. movements to implement OSH and fire prevention.

“It is necessary to improve working conditions and proactively prevent occupational accidents and occupational diseases; ensure adequate and timely regimes and policies on occupational accidents and occupational diseases for individuals and families of workers”, directed Ms. Cao Thi Hoa An.

At the ceremony, the organizing committee also gave 240 million VND to 4 families with housing difficulties under the “Trade Union Warm” support program and 30 gifts to 30 workers in difficult circumstances, each gift worth 1 million VND and 15kg of rice.
