The Vietnamese team lost their ticket to the 2024 Futsal World Cup right in the last minute of the match against Uzbekistan. Goalkeeper Ho Van Y could not stop the opponent’s strong shot with only 59 seconds remaining, allowing Uzbekistan to score 2-1.
The Vietnamese team played well, scored the opening goal and led for most of the match but could not stand firm in the final minutes. However, coach Diego Giustozzi and his team still have a chance to attend the 2024 World Cup through the “save ticket” tournament.

Asia has 5 spots to participate in this year’s world tournament, of which 4 spots are for the top 4 teams of Futsal Asian Cup 2024. Because Uzbekistan is the host country of Futsal World Cup 2024, this team naturally has a spot to participate in the tournament. When Uzbekistan entered the semi-finals of the Asian tournament, AFC had to organize an additional play-off round to determine the final spot for the World Cup.
To compete for this “ticket”, the 4 teams stopping in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Asian Futsal Tournament will divide into 2 pairs of knockout matches. The Vietnamese team will meet Kyrgyzstan (the team that lost in the quarterfinals to Iran). The other pair are Iraq (lost in the quarterfinals to Thailand) and Afghanistan (lost in the match against Tajikistan).
The two winning teams in the two matches mentioned above will meet in the decisive match, competing for the final spot to represent Asia at the 2024 Futsal World Cup – taking place in Uzbekistan in September.
The Vietnamese team will face Kyrgyzstan at 4:00 p.m. on April 26. If they overcome this obstacle, coach Giustozzi and his team will play the deciding match at 12:00 on April 28.
