On April 24, at the Government Guest House, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son and Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi co-chaired the 5th meeting of the Vietnam-Indonesia Bilateral Cooperation Committee (JCBC-5). .

Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son highly appreciated the significance of Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi’s visit to Vietnam and co-chairing of JCBC-5.

The visit aims to promote the implementation of high-level agreements, especially after the State-level visit to Vietnam by the President of Indonesia in January 2024 and in the context of the two sides preparing to celebrate the 70th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations. in 2025.

Minister Bui Thanh Son thanked Minister Retno Marsudi for actively supporting, participating and contributing to the success of the “ASEAN Future Forum” (AFF) recently held in Hanoi on April 23, 2024; congratulate Indonesia on successfully holding the general election earlier this year and believe that Indonesia will continue to prosper, have an increasingly high position in the international arena and become a developed country by 2045 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary. establish the country.

The two Ministers agreed to assess that cooperation between the two countries is increasingly developing deeply and effectively, bringing practical benefits to the people of the two countries, positively contributing to peace, stability and development in the region.

On that basis, the two Ministers agreed to continue to promote exchanges and contacts at high levels and at all levels, promote the effectiveness of existing cooperation mechanisms, and soon complete the Action Program for the 2024-2028 period. contributing to increasing political trust and deepening and deepening cooperation between the two countries in all fields, aiming to bring the relationship between the two countries to new heights.

The two Ministers were pleased to assess the remarkable development of Vietnam-Indonesia economic and trade cooperation in recent years. Indonesia is Vietnam’s 3rd largest trading partner and Vietnam is Indonesia’s 4th largest trading partner in ASEAN. Two-way trade in 2023 reaches 14 billion USD; In the first quarter of 2024 alone, it reached 3.6 billion USD, up 20% over the same period last year.

Aiming to bring bilateral trade turnover to 18 billion USD by 2028 in a more balanced direction, the two sides encourage to soon organize a meeting of the Joint Committee on economic, scientific and technical cooperation to exchange information. on measures to overcome difficulties and take advantage of the potential for cooperation between the two countries; Organize trade promotion activities, trade connections, and support businesses in accessing each other’s markets.

Minister Retno Marsudi affirmed that Indonesian businesses are increasingly interested in expanding investment in Vietnam. Minister Bui Thanh Son proposed that the two sides create favorable conditions for the two countries’ businesses to expand and diversify their investments, especially in new and potential fields such as green economy, circular economy, and energy. renewable energy, semiconductor industry, digital economy, electric vehicles and Halal cooperation.

The two sides agreed to strengthen defense and security cooperation, coordinate to prevent and combat cross-border crimes, including cybercrime, high-tech crimes, and human trafficking; Encourage the promotion of aviation connections, enhance cooperation in the fields of agriculture, fisheries, education, tourism and people-to-people exchanges.

The two Ministers discussed regional and international issues of mutual concern, including the East Sea issue and Myanmar; Committed to continuing to coordinate and support each other at multilateral and regional organizations and forums, including the United Nations, ASEAN, Sub-regional cooperation…

The two sides agreed to coordinate to maintain solidarity and agreed principles of ASEAN on the East Sea issue to ensure peace, stability and prosperity in the region, on the basis of international law, including the UNCLOS. United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) 1982, promoting the full and effective implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), actively promoting and soon reaching the Code of Conduct in the Sea (COC) is substantive and effective, in accordance with international law and UNCLOS 1982.

At the end of the Meeting, the two Foreign Ministers signed the Minutes of Agreement on the 5th Session of the Vietnam-Indonesia Bilateral Cooperation Committee and agreed that the 6th Session will be held in Indonesia in 2026./ .


President Widodo said that Indonesia and Vietnam have a common vision of striving to become a high-income country by 2045. To do that, the two sides need to increase dialogue and high-quality cooperation.
