On April 24, Con Dao National Park said it had just discovered a turtle laying eggs at Bay Canh island. Notably, this turtle comes from Malaysia.

Previously, late at night on April 22, while on management patrol, Con Dao National Park rangers discovered a mother turtle (also known as green turtle, scientific name Chelonia mydas) on Bay Canh island to lay a nest. egg.

The turtle weighs about 90kg, and after nesting, it laid 108 eggs. Through inspection, forest rangers noted that the turtle’s front limb was wearing a stainless steel tracking tag number 4240, indicating it came from Malaysia.

According to Con Dao National Park, nearly 6 years ago, this place recorded a turtle wearing a tag from Indonesia coming to Bay Canh island to lay 92 eggs.

Every year, Con Dao National Park welcomes more than 2,000 turtles to nest and lay eggs. This is the first case of a mother carrying a tag from Malaysia.

Green turtles, commonly known as green turtles (Chelonia mydas), are one of seven species of sea turtles that still appear and breed in Con Dao. The number of sea turtles that come to lay eggs in Con Dao accounts for about 90% of Vietnam’s sea turtle population.

Every year during the breeding season (from April to September), sea turtles from the ocean come to the beaches in Con Dao to nest.

According to Con Dao National Park, Con Dao waters currently have four species of sea turtles including: green turtles, hawksbill turtles, pineapple tortoises and loggerhead turtles. Among them, the green turtle population on the beaches in Con Dao lays eggs in the largest number.
