Thanh Hoa: Honoring outstanding youth, students and entrepreneurial examples in ethnic minority and mountainous areas

Thanh Hoa has over 130,000 young people from ethnic minority areas, belonging to the Muong, Thai, Dao, Mong, Kho Mu, Tho ethnic groups, accounting for 13% of the total number of young people in the province. In recent years, Youth Union ministries at all levels have coordinated with ethnic affairs agencies at the same level to organize a variety of propaganda and advocacy activities to raise awareness for youth members in ethnic minority and mountainous areas about the Party and government’s policies. State policies and laws, especially major guidelines and policies on youth work, ethnic work and socio-economic development of ethnic minority and mountainous areas.

Supporting youth economic development, the Provincial Youth Union coordinates with departments and branches to strengthen human resource training, support capital, and replicate youth farm models. Up to now, the loan capital from the Bank of Social Policies entrusted to the Management Union organization has increased to 1,619 billion VND, deployed to 28,819 households. The national loan fund for job creation through the Central Youth Union channel managed by the Provincial Youth Union is VND 2,350 billion for 27 youth projects to expand the model, creating jobs for nearly 200 workers.

At the ceremony, 40 outstanding individuals were honored out of a total of 254 outstanding young people, students and examples of successful startups in ethnic minority and mountainous areas in 2024.

As one of the commended young people, Ms. Luong Thi Luc, Son Dien commune, Quan Son district, said that in 2020, when she received a loan of 100 million VND from the Youth Start-up Fund, she and her husband boldly built Build a commercial salmon and sturgeon farming model. In order to successfully raise new types of fish, she went to dozens of fish farms across the country to learn experiences, methods, and ways of raising fish.

After many efforts, she successfully raised sturgeon and salmon on Quan Son land. Currently, in addition to commercial fish, her facility also produces fish fingerlings for sale to Hai Phong, Lao Cai, Quang Ninh… bringing total revenue to 2.5 billion VND/year, creating jobs for 5 workers. Regular employees, 5 seasonal workers with an income of 5 million VND/month/person.

In recent years, youth in ethnic minority and mountainous areas of Thanh Hoa province have constantly strived to overcome difficulties in studying, working in production, and actively responding to movements and campaigns of the union organization. , association, from which many outstanding examples of youth, union members, and students appeared.

In Cam Thuy district, Phung Dieu Linh, Dao ethnicity, is currently the Secretary of the Youth Union of class 12A6, Cam Thuy High School. In Thuong Xuan district, many union members and young people have been promoting local potential and strengths to start and establish successful businesses. Returning to Xuan Minh 1 village, Xuan Cao commune, we visited the model of the black summer vineyard of union member Ha Viet Huy, Thai ethnic group. Huy started growing grapes in 2021 when he was a student at Hanoi Law University. This is the first vineyard planted on Thuong Xuan land. Currently, Huy’s vineyard has more than 1,200 black summer grapes and peony grapes that are starting to produce the first fruit of the year. In just over 2 months, the vineyard will harvest and have stable output.

If Huy boldly started a business from growing grapes, Secretary of the Commune Youth Union Thanh Luong Ngoc Lai (born 1989) successfully started a business with the “Green Farm” model of raising earthworms, growing queen melons in a greenhouse and The farm raises clean chickens from earthworm food. The average annual income from the farm reaches 300 million VND, creating jobs for 6 local workers. Mr. Lai also links local farm models to help young people develop economically.

In Ma village (Thanh Xuan neighborhood), Thuong Xuan town, union member Ha Thi Tuyen, born in 1993, is the owner of the Homestay chain and Tinh Tuyen culinary restaurant. Tuyen is one of the first people to do tourism in Ma village and bring images of nature, people, and cultural identity of the Thai ethnic group to tourists.
