Having thoracic myeloma causes prolonged pain in the thoracic spine, numbness in the groin and left thigh causing difficulty in walking, greatly affecting daily life, patient Nguyen Thi Da (born in 1962) residing in Vinh Phuc and has been cured.
Having persistent back pain, despite going to many different places for examination and treatment, the patient’s condition has not changed, and the pain continues to torment. Through researching on media channels and being introduced by acquaintances who had cured the disease, the family took the patient to Phu Tho Provincial General Hospital for examination and treatment.
The patient was hospitalized at the Department of Surgery – Phu Tho Provincial General Hospital with thoracic spine pain, left leg weakness, pain, and limited movement.
Examination results and magnetic resonance imaging showed that the patient had a 1x2cm thoracic cord tumor at the level of T11 – L1 that was compressing the spinal cord. The patient was prescribed microsurgery to remove the myeloma to relieve compression.
The surgery was conducted smoothly under a microsurgical microscope and with the support of a C-arm machine (a device that uses X-ray technology to accurately locate anatomical locations on the body), the team was able to completely remove tumors easily. The tumor was sent for biopsy, which turned out to be a benign tumor (schwannoma).
4 days after surgery, the patient was able to walk again, and after 8 days of treatment the patient was discharged from the hospital.
