Mrs. Pham Thi Hap lives alone in a temporary shack built in a field

During the conversation with reporters from Hai Duong Newspaper and local leaders about her tragic situation, Ms. Hap always cried, making it difficult for those sitting opposite her to hold back. “Young people rely on their fathers, old people rely on their children, but for me, I can’t ask anyone for help because all four of my sons are gone,” Mrs. Hap choked up.

Mr. Tran Huy Hao, Party Cell Secretary, Head of Truc Lam village, said that in Hoang Dieu commune, including neighboring communes, there is probably rarely a case as miserable as Ms. Hap. She and her husband gave birth to 4 sons, the youngest son died suddenly when he was 4 years old. The remaining 3 sons, after getting married and having children, suddenly died at a young age. Many years ago, Mrs. Hap’s husband passed away.

Ms. Hap said, she and her husband had nearly 800 m² of residential land, which they later divided among their children. Previously, she lived at her eldest daughter-in-law’s house. However, she later sold the land and moved to another place. The third daughter-in-law remarried, had children of her own, and built a house on the divided land. The second daughter-in-law’s children are still young and her situation is also very difficult, so she cannot take care of her mother-in-law.

Her husband and all four sons have passed away, making Mrs. Hap’s life very difficult

In 2022, Mrs. Hap’s eldest daughter-in-law used part of the land to build a temporary shack made of corrugated iron in the middle of the field for her mother-in-law to live in. Since then, her life has been lonely and miserable. “At first, my eldest daughter-in-law gave me 300,000 VND every month, but after that she stopped giving me money. The daughters-in-law and grandchildren rarely visited or cared for me, and only rarely brought some fruit or corn. “Cousins can hardly help,” Mrs. Hap said sadly.

Because she has no income and is not yet old enough to receive the State’s monthly allowance, Ms. Hap often has to earn a living by catching crabs and snails. She brought what she caught to the market to sell, but at most she only earned about 20,000 VND to cover her living expenses. Near Mrs. Hap’s house, there is a business that often gives free rice to families in difficult circumstances every Saturday, each household gets 3 kg/time. Mrs. Hap went to ask for rice there, but one week she got it, another week she didn’t because she ran out of coupons.

Hoang Dieu commune leaders and Truc Lam village officials visited Ms. Hap’s life situation

In recent months, Ms. Hap’s health has weakened a lot due to her thoughts and a number of diseases such as vestibular diseases, high blood pressure, and diabetes. She no longer goes hunting for crabs and snails as often as before, but can only grow vegetables around the temporary shack or collect firewood and fuel around the village.

Old age, poor health, living alone in the midst of chaos and hardship, Mrs. Hap still has a huge concern ahead. “This temporary shack is being built on agricultural land. If the government forces it to be dismantled now, I know where it will go and where it will go,” Ms. Hap shared.

Mr. Pham Nang Nga, Vice Chairman of Hoang Dieu Commune People’s Committee, said that Ms. Hap’s situation was very difficult. Local authorities are also very concerned about this case. However, in addition to prioritizing the delivery and giving of gifts on holidays and New Year from all levels, sectors, agencies, units, businesses and benefactors to her, the locality does not have any other resources. help. Therefore, it is very necessary for the sharing and cooperation of society, especially businesses and philanthropists, to help Ms. Hap escape this pitiful situation.
