The main theme of the SMAE Award 2024 competition revolves around Design and Innovation of Glue Dispensing Machine provided by MISUMI Vietnam. The competition was evaluated by SMAE’s professional council as an opportunity for students to both practice the theory they learned in the classroom and at the same time grapple with the improvement requirement of “ensuring performance – optimizing costs” which is the problem of most businesses today.

This year’s competition takes place through 2 main rounds with increasing difficulty, requiring contestants to maximize their machine design skills, propose improvement ideas and model ideas through 3D drawings and video simulations. burn.

In round 1 (April 23 – May 5, 2024), future engineers will observe and measure the machine, use MISUMI’s website to find the correct part code, download component part drawings, and rebuild. 3D drawings of the machine and propose ideas to improve missing components.

The 6 best ideas will move on to round 2 taking place on May 17, 2024. Teams have 3 hours of live competition on the machine to model their ideas into complete 3D drawings and video simulations of the machine’s operation.

In the SMAE Award 2024 competition, students have access to Glue Dispensing Machines. This is an automated machine with highly practical applications in most manufacturing industries today: electrical and electronic components, printer manufacturing, phones, computers, automobile and motorbike components…

The factor that makes the competition attractive is that two functional clusters of the machine will be removed before being announced to students. The improvement idea for the missing function cluster needs to ensure the operating function of the glue marking machine and maximize cost optimization compared to the original machine design plan.
