On the morning of April 25, the People’s Court of Tien Giang province held a first instance trial of the case “Violation of regulations on bidding, causing serious consequences” that occurred at the Center for Disease Control (CDC) of Tien Giang province.

This case has 4 defendants, Nguyen Ngoc Chon (former Director of CDC) and 3 accomplices: Vo Thanh Binh, Trieu Vuong Tuyen and Dang Minh Uy.

The defendants in court

According to the indictment, around June 2021, the COVDI-19 outbreak began in Tien Giang province and became increasingly complicated. Tien Giang CDC was assigned additional funding of more than 31 billion VND to carry out epidemic prevention work, purchase equipment and chemicals to deploy testing.

However, Nguyen Ngoc Chon and his accomplices did not comply with the legal regulations on bidding, causing damage to the state of more than 7 million VND. billion.

Accordingly, the total amount of money CDC paid to buy tests produced by Viet A Company is more than 11 billion VND.

Chon received a “kickback” from Viet A Company of 450 million VND; Tuyen received 420 million VND; Binh received 375 million VND and Uy received 782 million VND.

Worth mentioning, after receiving information from the CDC in some provinces regarding the violations of Viet A Technology Joint Stock Company, Tien Giang province requested and encouraged individuals who received gifts from this company to honestly declare and resubmit. However, the above defendants did not declare and did not return the money.
