Having had a serious accident, an orphaned male student needs urgent help

Vu Gia Nghia (born 2005, residing in Thanh Dong hamlet, Giao Huong commune, Giao Thuy district, Nam Dinh) has a very difficult situation. In 2004, Vu Thi Anh (born 1982) met and fell in love with a man in Dak Nong and gave birth to Nghia. But when their son was 8 months old, the two had conflicts and broke up.

Little Nghia was picked up by his uncle and taken care of by his grandparents, while his mother went to Hanoi to work as a maid for a while. Feeling sorry for their grandson who suffered many disadvantages, his grandparents tried to raise and educate Nghia to become a good person. However, misfortune continuously occurred in 2020, Nghia’s father passed away from lung cancer. A year later, my mother also passed away from this dangerous disease.

Life became even more difficult when my grandmother discovered she had end-stage kidney failure and had to undergo dialysis every week at an extremely expensive cost. My grandfather is nearly 80 years old and can no longer walk. Nghia decided to go to Hanoi and apply to study cooking at a vocational school in Nhon (Bac Tu Liem), hoping to soon have a stable career to take care of her grandparents.

While everything was still chaotic, at 1:00 p.m. on April 21, 2024, I suddenly had a traffic accident, falling and hitting my head on the road. As a result, Nghia was seriously injured and was taken to Viet Duc Hospital for emergency treatment.

It is known that on the afternoon of April 23, the doctor performed brain surgery on her for 6 hours. Currently, Nghia is out of danger, but due to multiple serious injuries, the treatment process is still long and extremely complicated, resulting in extremely expensive treatment costs. During the active recovery period, she also had to undergo many jaw and facial bone grafts.

These days, my relatives are running around trying to make money. Mrs. Pham Thi Nu (born 1974, Nghia’s uncle-in-law) shared: “My nephew is unhappy, his parents are not around, his grandparents are sick. He doesn’t have health insurance, so the surgery cost a lot. My whole family took a long time to borrow 200 million VND. Luckily the hospital created conditions for me to have surgery first to save my life, otherwise now I would have had little healing and much more harm.”

The Social Work Department of Viet Duc Hospital confirmed that 19-year-old patient Vu Gia Nghia had a traffic accident. At the time of admission, he was diagnosed with multiple injuries, traumatic brain injury, hemispheric subdural hematoma (P), G 10 points, maxillofacial injury. The patient has had brain surgery and will continue to undergo long-term treatment in the future. However, the patient’s family situation is so difficult that it is difficult to afford the upcoming treatment costs.

Mr. Vu Ngoc Long, Chairman of Giao Huong Commune People’s Committee confirmed: Vu Gia Nghia is a local citizen, it is really difficult. Nghia’s parents have passed away, and now she is living with her elderly grandparents who are often sick. Now I had a serious traffic accident, my relatives tried to borrow money but couldn’t handle it. The locality has also supported and mobilized people to pay attention, but only partially. We hope that Nghia will receive support from the community and have additional treatment costs.
