Quang Binh: People hand over rare land pythons

On April 25, the Forest Ranger Department of Quang Trach district (Quang Binh province) said that people in Quang Chau commune handed over a rare python that crawled into the house.

Accordingly, Mr. Hoang Minh Hai (born in 1984, Tung Giang village, Quang Chau commune), discovered a python more than 1 meter long, weighing about 2kg, crawling into the house.

Immediately afterwards, Mr. Hai informed the forest rangers and local police to hand over this rare python.

According to Mr. Pham Hong Khanh, Head of the Quang Trach District Forest Ranger Department, this individual python belongs to the ground python species with the scientific name Python molurus. This species belongs to group IIB, regulated in Decree No. 32/2006/ND-CP and Decree No. 160/2013/ND-CP of the Government. According to conservation status classification, ground pythons are classified as CR – very endangered level in Vietnam Red Book 2007 and NT – near threatened level in IUCN Red List 2008.

Quang Trach Forest Ranger District will hand over to Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park Animal Rescue Center for conservation and release into the wild.

According to the Quang Trach Forest Ranger District, in recent times people have had a good sense of protecting rare wild animals, voluntarily handing over pangolins and wild cats when they enter the house.
